Greg Schiano (HC Rutgers Scarlet Knights)

That's a heck of a risk, and that transition sounds good on paper. But what if Schiano succeeds next year and wants to remain on staff? Do you keep him with Freeman(even though Freeman was set to become the next DC in charge)? Because if that happens, than we're back in the position that we're in now, where the young up and coming defensive coach feels slighted and bolts, Schiano stays with 1 foot still out the door. I think you shit or get off the pot with Schiano. Urban was great at "finding" open positions for his assistants when it wasn't working(Withers, Beck, Warriner, etc), and Day should probably do the same with Schiano, and fast, because he hasn't hid the fact that he's pursuing a number of HC opportunities. Let him go, pursue Freeman, show Davis the door and bring in Washington. Get younger, you don't lose any type of recruiting prowess(like we thought we would if we chose Grinch over Schiano), and suit the schemes to the massive amount of talent we have on this defense.

Yeah, I think that going into the season it would have to be made clear that Greg would have to find a new employer at the end of the season.

I've asked before but with no luck. Did Schiano's ever sue Tennessee? Wondering if we could ever end up keeping him as a Def. Coordinator but pay him minimum salary while Tennessee foots the bill.

Like Bo Polini did at Youngstown State on Nebraska's dime.

If that is possible, getting to keep him for next to nothing with money to spread to other assistants would be huge.

Still waiting for that “right time” for him to address that situation.
