So really, all I can comment on so far is the character creator, which is…odd. One of weirdest I’ve come across actually. Rather than adjusting the millimeters of your nose and cheekbone like in most games, GTA Online has you sorting through a bunch of different pairings of possible grandparents, which in turn create your parents, which in turn create you. You fashion your looks by choosing grandparents and then deciding which of them your parents resemble more, and which of your parents you resemble more. It’s a decent amount of work to create a face that looks halfway normal, if I’m being honest.

It’s more or less a randomized system, but I also learned that your “lifestyle” influences your look as well. Sinking weekly hours into “criminal activity” may increase your driving and shooting stat, but it will also make you look like a meth head. My character, a 22 year-old blonde woman named Evangeline, sunk so many points into “legal work” that they actually put her in a business suit. Put a lot of points into physical activity, and you’ll end up dressed like a marathon runner, and so on. I made Evangeline as wholesome as I could, with all her points in family, sports and legal work, and she’s as fresh faced as a daisy. I figure it will make her decline into a life of crime a lot more interesting, if only in my own head, though my shooting and driving stats are now less than a full bar each, which may make that difficult.

Of course I made my character a woman after this article. I’m really curious to see how it feels to play as a woman in the GTA universe. There are already gender specific differences, like Lamar showing up with a rose when he picked me up at the airport and hitting on me during the drive to the race, and I’m curious to see what else the game will make of my gender.

I do wish I had a voice though. I’ve gotten used to self-created heroes with voices from Saints Row and Mass Effect, and it’s kind of a bummer not to have one here and be forced to pantomime my way through conversations. But even Rockstar has its resource limits, I suppose.

Yeah, I'm not all that keen on the character creation. Interesting concept with the parents/grandparents and what not, as well as the lifestyle choices. I've found that putting at least 7-8 hours in the Sleep category will keep your character from looking too "meth'd," even if you're putting a lot of points in Illegal Activities. Also, and I'm not sure why this is, but I think your character actually looks way worse in the Character Creation screen than they do in actual cut-scenes and on the street. Even after putting 8 hours in the Sleep category I thought my character looked like a user, but once I started the game my character looked much better. Lighting maybe? I don't know.

I had no success getting online the first day, but after Playstation corrected their network issues I was able to get lots of Online time in tonight. The connection problems I did have mostly involved trying to join multi-player deathmatches/races, free roam was fine. By 10pm and later I had no connection issues and was able to do several missions with people. I did a couple deathmatches, a bike race at the airport, and some actual missions grabbing drugs and cars for NPCs.

On one mission I was set to get some Meth down by the reservoir/river that runs through the city. I was running with some random guy that I knew was pretty trustworthy as we helped each other on a few previous missions. However, on this mission someone else joined us. Well, the other two guys approached the meth dealers from the north, parking their cars up above at the street. I ended up swinging around from the south and left my car near the river. We caught the dealers in the middle from both sides, scoring the drugs. As I was running back to my car with the goods, the new player started opening fire on me, trying to steal the stuff for himself in a double cross. I was able to make it to the car, and with nothing to protect him down by the river I ran him over twice to end his coup. I picked up my trusted friend, and he provided cover fire from the pursuing drug lords while I drove us back to the drop off. Pretty fun little mission!

I tried doing online last night and i created my loner vigilante player and did the race. After the race the system hung, the screen was blurry, but I could hear the city life actively going on around me. It said loading the whole time. I shut it down after 10 minutes...

Online mode is completely f^&*@d, as is offline. Apparently the latest patch of the game is an epic fail.

Really? Considering how poorly they were doing with glitches the first 3-4 months, the last month or so they've actually cleaned up a lot of stuff that was really borked. The removed the huge balances that everyone had as a result of glitching and exploits, reducing everyone to $500k I think. On the other hand, any cars/houses/weapons you bought with that glitched cash remain, so in essence the damage was done. I believe they removed the tanks and such from people's garages. Doesn't look like you can set huge bounties anymore. I only played for the first time in weeks last night, but I was surprised how much cleaner it was...compared to before.

It's unacceptable that heists still aren't in the game though. They were supposed to be ready at Online launch, and after that they said they'd be coming soon. Hell, the game has been out for almost half a year now. If the heists are a fail, the game is going on the shelf indefinitely. My buddies and I still play Monday nights, but honestly all we do these days is camp out at the northern Los Santos Pay N Spray and destroy any and all players that come through the area. It's boring, but I can't convince either of them to do any missions these days because they have no reason to purchase anything. I hope with the addition of actual houses you can buy (I heard the Playboy Mansion will be available, among others) and some more vehicles it will prompt a need for cash and people will start doing missions again.

The only other good news from last night that I saw...that brought back the Rat Loader! It's actually a purchase you can make online, and ANY mods you want for it are completely free. That's free bulletproof tires, armor, paint, etc. On the downside it still can't turn worth shit, but I've opened up a spot in my garage for it to return.

BuckeyeTillIDie, you gonna get another one?

It freezes for me online and offline. I did some research on it, and there were major errors when the game launched, had I seen it before, I wouldn't have bought it. As mentioned before, my problems started when I started trying to go back and complete missions in story mode that I didn't get gold in. I had to log off PSN though. Now it doesn't matter whether I log in or not. Freezes after a few minutes. I did the reinstall, restored file system. Nothing.

There pumping out another patch March 4th. More shit to buy. no heists, no casino this shit is getting old. I've down to farming the coveted mission for money. I'm losing my patience. I just got it at xmas. Rock star better make a 2nd half comeback or they lost it. Gta6 won't be the biggest selling thing ever at this pace

Yeah, I'm a bit disappointed myself. While I feel GTA V is better than IV (Didn't care for the story or characters myself, I thought the whole thing was kind of a turd), that doesn't say much. The story seemed shorter than the previous games, even with side missions. That's probably as a result of the time spent in Online. Online was seriously fun for about a month, but they really started screwing with the missions, the replay feature, payouts, etc. They kept trying to slow down progress, and it had a negative effect as people just started cheating and trying to find more loopholes. If Rockstar would have spent more time trying to close the loopholes rather than restrict actual legitimate progress the game probably wouldn't have gotten so screwed up. At this point the game is just boring because theres so much money floating around, or everything's been purchased already, theres no reason to do races, missions, or anything that was actually fun.
