HB Dontre 'DeSoto' Wilson (Official Thread)

Austin Ward ESPN Staff Writer
Ohio State looks like it will be getting an offensive lift with the return of Dontre Wilson, who Urban Meyer said has been "cleared to play" after missing last week's trip to Michigan State with an undisclosed injury. Wilson is third on the team with 26 catches and six total touchdowns, and the Buckeyes can use all hands on deck for Saturday's huge rivalry clash with Michigan.

DeSoto is going to help us beat the dark empire this Saturday. I have a feeling he is going to come up big a couple times against the skunkbear.

I hope he does almost entirely due to that bullshit that happened to him on kick return his freshman year. Sure, it lead to an iconic flip off of the entire Big House from Marcus Hall, but that is about the dirtiest and most clearly coordinated attack on a player I have seen.

This! I'm hoping he makes them pay for it. If they are focused on Samuel, he needs to make them regret it.

For sure. Forgot all about that. I just think he is going to be the guy they forget all about. Put him in the slot and he is hard to cover. Hopefully his foot won't be a problem and he can play full go.

FIGHT TO THE END: DONTRE WILSON'S LAST RODEO

78299_h.jpg,qitok=6LBFm8-R.pagespeed.ce.cOiv5qmQHZ.jpg

Ohio State's 2016 senior class has a chance to win its second national championship in three years with two more victories this season. Before kickoff against Clemson in the College Football Playoff, Eleven Warriors will take a brief look back at each player's time in Columbus.

WHERE HE'S FROM
Dontre Wilson, a four-star 2013 running back from DeSoto, Texas, committed to Chip Kelly's Oregon over Mack Brown's Texas in May 2012. He did so partly to avoid a potential RB logjam in Austin and partly to become the next De'Anthony Thomas in Eugene.

"[Oregon] just fits me perfect,” Wilson told ESPN. “I am the same size as all of their running backs right now. I have the speed and the quickness to play a part in their offense."

The newest Oregon Duck noted he wanted to visit Ohio State that summer but "nothing is promised."

Fast forward to January 2013. Ohio State finished that season 12-0. Oregon finished 12-1 with a Fiesta Bowl win over Kansas State. However, the Philadelphia Eagles lured Kelly away from Eugene with a five-year, $32 million deal on Jan. 16.

Urban Meyer made his move for a prospect that seemed destined to play the "Percy Harvin position."

Wilson officially visited Columbus on Jan. 25. Six days later, he officially visited Texas and unofficially visited Oklahoma State.

On Feb. 4, two days before National Signing Day, the famous running back from DeSoto ended his recruit by flipping from Oregon to "the university of Ohio State."

I saw him line up at receiver and remember think that he might get some carries after Webber fumbled, which I was surprised he didn't. I think he is a prime example of a guy that this current staff just didn't utilize properly, Herman really knew how to use him alot better.

I was tempted to say that he was just a less athletic version of Samuel, but he definitely did good work in the slot. He was having a good year in 2014 before the MSU game injury. Wish he could've just redshirted last year, but I'm not sure he was ever going to fully recover from the foot.

Samuel and Wilson share alot of the same traits but the offensive staff seem to move Wilson away from running the ball this year. I think that was a mistake, having two guys like Wilson and Samuel who could flex in and out of the backfield could have added alot more wrinkles to the offense.

I'm not surprised that Beck and Warriner couldn't figure out how to use him now, they seem not to be able to add anything to the playbook. I've been watching highlights of 2014 and the current plays are just not executed to the same degree of detail. Angles, alignments and blocking are all lazy and have morph this offense to the shell of what it once was.
