Go Bucks/Hail to the Redskins!!
Dear Ohio State Buckeye Fan,

We're sorry for the inconvenience, but our online ticketing site is currently down for an upgrade. Please check back in mid-July for your online ticketing needs or call 1-800-GO-BUCKS.

Thank you

The Ohio State University
Athletic Ticket Office
I'm sure most if not all of you have seen this little note if you go to Hang On Sloopy.com looking for tickets.

I guess my question is, why the hell doesn't the ticket office have the common courtesy to at least update the site with current information. If they are still experiencing difficulties then how about letting the rest of us in on it instead of leaving an outdated message posted. It's already mid-SEPTEMBER. This is really said. Just my .02.

Happy Anniversary HANG ON SLOOPY..on this day in 1965.....

The director at the time, Dr. Charles Spohn, was skeptical about having the band perform the song, but eventually Tatgenhorst talked him into it. It made its debut October 9, 1965 at the OSU vs. Illinois game, but crowd response was mediocre as the band was not allowed to take the field because of heavy rain. The next game, however, was a different story. "They played it the next week in the stands and the crowd went crazy," recalled Tatgenhorst. "They really loved the thing! They kept yelling 'Sloopy!! Sloopy!!'." From then on, the popularity of Hang on Sloopy continued to build until it was firmly a tradition by the end of the 1965 season.

Bill making 'Hang on Sloopy' official state rock song gets approval
Ohio State marching band also honored at Statehouse

The Ohio State University Marching Band visited the Ohio House today, and entertained the chamber with the fight song prior to the chamber voting to make “Hang on Sloopy” the official state rock song.

“I think we have a real treat for everyone today,” Rep. Cheryl Grossman, R-Grove City, told the chamber. A moment later, a whistle blew outside the front doors, the drums began and about three dozen band members marched into the House.

The band played the Ohio State fight song, and followed up later with “Hang on Sloopy.” Lawmakers stood, clapped, and took videos of the show.

The Ohio State band first performed “Hang on Sloopy” in 1965 and it has since become a staple in its repertoire at games and other appearances. The song also is played regularly at Cleveland Indians, Browns and Cavaliers games, and other sports contests around the state.

Grossman co-sponsored the official state rock song bill with Rep. Michael Stinziano, D-Columbus, whose father teamed with the late Sen. Gene Watts in 1985 to pass a resolution making Sloopy the official state rock song. But, Stinziano said, it was never officially placed into law alongside the state’s other official symbols.

“We are trying to put ‘Hang on Sloopy’ in its rightful place,” he said, noting the song has Ohio connections.
