Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (official thread)

Over/under is at 79 this week. Much lower than I anticipated. The second and 7th ranked teams in the country in passing offense will race past 79.

I'm sure they'll probably get over 100

Hawaii put up points but Hal Mumme and Aggies of New Mexico State couldn't any points. Hawaii over falls to 4-2 on the year and the Warriors are at 8-0. Over/Under this week is at 72 against Fresno State. Fresno has put up 30+ points in 4 out of their last five games. Hawaii won in Fresno last season 68-37.

I had quite a different experience while my wife and I watched a game in Aloha Stadium in which my son (the visiting team) was playing. We were treated very well by the home folks. Some even thanked us for coming and hoped we enjoyed the experience. A couple wished our program well for the rest of the season and how impressed they were that we came all the way across the country to play them while the "big boys" always take a pass. All in all a pleasant experience.....

Wow :yow1: That's pretty horrible, I had never heard of fans being treated badly there, I had heard a lot of heckling and what not but overall from people who had been there said it was a nice place. This is a scary thought though, I mean I see this type of stuff happen all over the place but normally security is right there to put an end to it.

Not the first time this shit has happened and it won't be the last (remember Cincinnati a few years back?). Unfortunately, phony machismo and bravado is part of the local culture here. Everyone thinks they're a bad ass. And the huge numerical advantage (and alcohol) heightens their "bravery". Racism also lays a huge role. There are many, many locals who flat out hate Haoles (whites) and outsiders as a whole. Ask anyone who has ever had kids in the Hawaiian school system prior to 10 or so years ago about "Kill a Haole Day"...seriously.

I can heartily agree with these points and it isn't just Hawaiian Island culture, it's really all Islander cultures that have this going on, a strong dislike, even hatred for "whites" by whatever name they call them.

The game, and it's acceptable level of competitive "rival hatred" was most likely just an excuse for a more racially-oriented incident.

Read up on New Zealand culture clashes between native Maori and the pakeha (any non-maori, generally "whites") that have settled in. It's very similar issues.

*The above was a general statement, not EVERY Islander is racially motivated of course*

I have watched it, multiple times. It doesn't seem to contradict my feelings about culture clashes between Maori and Pakeha. The movie, in fact, focuses specifically on how the "inner city" problems of some modern Maori can be traced back to a loss of identity stemming from settlement, colonization, and assimilation or lack thereof.

Do you feel I made a bigoted remark? Am I missing your point?

Hm, ok, so he was quoting me not so he could direct a comment at me but direct a comment to the board about my comment. Ok, that makes sense too. Thanks.
Well, in fairness to you, after re-reading Hyan's post, I wasn't so sure any longer, which is why I deleted my post. But, that's what I understood him to mean originally.
