Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (official thread)

I think Jones' comments about Washington are an indictment on their own, UW was very disappointing this year and they were still the most "athletic and physical" that Hawaii played. If Georgia comes to play (not a given, ask WVU) this could get ugly.

Are you being serious? 4-9 Washington may have been their toughest opponent all year. Struggling regularly during this dreadful schedule doesn't earn them any credibility either.

They still have a big fat zero under the "L". There is not another single team in major college football that can lay claim to the same.

The problem is, they did everything they were asked...and, they're locked out fo the NC game...it's not up to them.

The Buckeyes and Tigers got lucky with their lottery tickets.

Hawaii got screwed with theirs.

It's not? So someone else scheduled their weak lineup of games for them? If they have to go on the road to schedule games and gain respect, then do so. They did not. Their road games? 5-7 La Tech, 2-10 UNLV, 1-11 Idaho, 5-7 SJSU, 6-6 Nevada.

Have you glanced at their schedule and the results? These games do not convince me they would be anywhere near undefeated playing a big conference schedule.

45-44 La Tech (5-7) 42-35 SJSU (5-7) 37-30 Fres St (8-4) 28-26 Nevada (6-6) 35-28 Wash (4-7)

Trust me on this - the BCS isn't a lottery, it is a popularity contest merged at the hip to a computer analyst.
The Buckeyes won the popularity part of the contest (by going 11-1), LSU came in a strong #2 in the same contest then aced their computer quiz.
Hawaii did neither thing - and that is no indictment of them at all.
Hawaii knew they would have to have a perfect record to get to a BCS bowl. They accomplished that and they are going to the Sugar Bowl - there is little more they can reasonably hope for in my view.

They are going to a BCS bowl I am not sure how that is getting screwed.

You can complain all you want about them not getting to the NCG but they simply do not play good enough teams for voters or the computers for that matter to believe in them. Not their fault mind you since they did try and schedule tougher teams but it is the way it worked out.

Lets not forget that this is a team that tried to schedule Michigan and USC this year, did not ask for a home and home but instead said we will play on the road against you, and got turned down. While their schedule is bad, you can't fault them entirely for it.

Nonsense. A terrible schedule is a terrible schedule. The BCS sole reason for being is to match up the two "best" teams. I would agree if we had "The Undefeated BCS" award - but it is not called that for a reason. They flat play a sucky schedule, and if the abortion that was the BYU National Championship is never again repeated, then the BCS at least did that.

You are showing your total ignorance of football here. Being undefeated automatically qualifies you for the title game? How about we bring up Mount Union from Div III?

Maybe, just maybe, had Hawaii trounced everyone on their weak schedule--weak, as in dead last in SOS nationally--then maybe they would get some serious consideration. Barely beating teams like 5-7 Louisiana Tech, 5-7 San Jose State and 6-6 Nevada doesn't exactly bolster their reputation as a legitimate powerhouse.

As for any comparison between us and Hawaii, the Warriors struggled to beat Washington by seven at home, while we pounded Washington by 19 on their turf. If June Jones thought Washington is physical and athletic, he's going to shit all over himself when they line up against Georgia.

Bottom line is this...UH's schedule allowed them to stay healthy and win. Give them ONE game against anyone and they could win it no doubt, but put them in a B10, SEC, ACC, PAC 10 and they would not go by without losing at least 3 games. They just don't have the depth to play in a conference like that week in and week out. This is talking about THIS YEAR'S TEAM, argueably the best ever in UH History. It's a different story when you just have to get ready for one BIG GAME compared to having to show up every week.

With that said,

GEAUX WARRIORS!

GEAUX BUCKS!

I told you Hawaii would 11 games in August. It's not my fault you didn't cash out on the money then

I tried to make you rich but you didn't listen

Maybe they should try calling us BEFORE our schedule is full. Tends to improve the chances of a deal getting done.

Hawaii is a good story, however, I don't see it coming to a happy ending. They are good at home but on the mainland they aren't nearly as effective. Maybe it's the crowd, or the weather, or whatever, but they aren't as impressive when they are here. They are going to be here, and against a very pissed off Georgia team, if they can keep it close for 3 quarters I will gain a ton of respect for them, but I see them getting punked at almost every position.

Good luck Warriors, you're going to need it.
