Hawk and Mangold Apartment Robbed!!

I missed that show. But there was an article in the Chicago Tribune 9 days ago that mentioned the segment. It said that Kirk Ferentz's son was living in that type of housing at Iowa.

Were they implying that it was inappropriate for scholarship athletes to live in government-subsidized housing?

It sounds like the government has changed the rules to make it much harder for scholarship athletes to qualify for Section 8. I wouldn't turn down free money, but it isn't exactly fair to poor people when football players can live for free because they don't have income even though they are making 5 to 10 K a year for room and board. The worst thing about living in the former Section 8 apartments that I lived in were all the poor welfare people that lived there and their 8 million trashy kids. They had no respect for anyone or their property.

why did it take so long? pretty simple really. 3 guys live together and its the holidays. guy #1 drops by to pick up some stuff on his way to his parents. the person who broke in likely knows them and knew exactly what he/she was looking for so they likely didn't make much of a mess. they knew when they would be gone, they knew when the area would be low on witnesses, knew there were things to take and exactly where they would be, knew they were about to be millionaires, and took advantage of an easy opportunity.

heres likely how it went down:
guy #1 calls guy #2. dude, did you guys fuck up the lock on the door? the door was shut but the lock looks broke. the door doesn't stay shut much anymore. oh and by the by... did one of you borrow my xbox? not that i have a problem with that seeing as how you are fairly large and scary... guy #2. uhh.... i didn't do anything to the door and wtf would i take your xbox. i have one in my... ummm... can you check and make sure mine is still there? guy #1. nada xbox. guy #2. shit, i think we got robbed. either that or guy #3 is fucking with us. guy #1. you don't think he robbed us do you? guy #2. god no! ...he wouldn't do that? guy #1. well... lets hold off on this until we can get ahold of him and find out whats going on for sure. lets face it, its not like we will ever get our stuff back anyway. no reason to get someone arrested over a prank.

i can tell you that when i got robbed the last thing that went through my mind was calling the cops. took me about 5 hours after i found out to call. if im hours away and find out my place got robbed... hard to tell how i would react. but i likely wouldn't have called the cops till i got back home. they might have just held off on calling until everyone got back from the holidays to call. that way they could figure out what happened between them and got a good inventory of what was taken. getting robbed isn't like getting yoru arm cut off. the first thing that runs through your mind isn't calling for help.

$3000 is not a lot of money for three guys to have and it may have belonged to Jonathan Thomas. Perhaps they paid their expenses out of cash and had just drawn rent money or food money prior to leaving for the TSUN game. Geez, who cares and what possible right does anyone have to question where they got their money?

Why would it take so long to report the burglary? Well, it sounds like they weren't all there for one thing.

If you've ever been burgled, then you know that, at first, you can't really work out what all is missing. It takes a few days before you notice what exactly is gone. It must be a real mess when three people share the house.

Of course, there's another small issue or two. Uh, would you like to make a mistake on a police report if you played for Ohio State? Remember anyone getting in trouble for inflating values of a police report? Think maybe ESPiN might be going over every item to try to catch a mistake? Think maybe your insurance company will screw you if you mistakenly fail to report an item?

I realize that some folks have too much time on their hands, but could the conspiracy theorists go back to the Kennedy assassination documentary on Discovery Channel now please?

that theif must be a scUM fan or have some issues back in centerville, OH

it's holidays and christmas season...this time of the year, it's not that unusual for robbery.

Holidays bring along a big spike in crime on campus.
Thieves know most everyone is gone.
Added to the fact that most people dont even leave a light on to make it look like someone is there, they make themselves easy targets.
I feel bad for them, hopefully they get a chance to beat the robbers ass(es)

Yea, me n 2 buddies live off campus in a place and were all 18. We each have a ps2 and a laptop. Im not a big dvd guy but one of my roomates has 50+. We actually have all kinds of electronics and tv's and shit, but not a grand between us. We arnt on scholarship and we are freshman as opposed to seniors. Money is in the bank for rent and bills till the day of. Im not suggesting they did anything wrong, there are a million reasons why they might have the money legally. Theres some good reasons as to why they have it illegally. I dont think they did do anything wrong, I dont think the media is going to accept that so easily.

What's funny is that a ND fan on the Rivals premium board is calling for an investigation into this... What a chump...
I agree with everyone reminding people of the well-off families that Hawk and Mangold come from. It's nothing for people in Centerville to drive really nice cars and buy their kids nice cars and things, especially when those kids get full-rides to college. I also agree with those pointing out that lots of this stuff could have been the third roommate's, who is not a player.

Relative to his projected financial wherewithall next year, I'd say 'poor' is an apt word choice. :roll1:

Relative to kids who are busting their asses just to pay tuition, rent, utilities, and hopefully have enough for food...I'd say he made a poor choice of words. As someone who did all of the above (barely), I don't find his words insulting and know it was just a slip up, but I do find it pretty amusing.

"Poor" college kid's stuff? :slappy: I'd say that's a "poor" choice of words if you have $3,000 in cash laying around your apartment.

That 3000k could have been their rent until June.
It could have been food for the next 6 months for one of them.
You dont know what they have in the bank; for all we know thats every dime that one of them had.
Do you even think before you speak sometimes?
And If that 3k was all that they had to muster between the three of them, id say thats "poor."
