HB Dontre 'DeSoto' Wilson (Official Thread)

Oregon's to lose, but there's always a chance if we can get him to visit. Hopefully having a fellow Texas native in J.T. Barrett in the fold could help out here.

We are in the running just because of what style of offense we are going to run. Wilson wants to play in a spread offense. That is why Texas is out as well as the other local teams.

I totally agree with Smudger, if we get this kid to visit, I know we will have a much better chance.

24/7 $ - The low down on Dontre Wilson

His dad says OSU has not passed Texas and has a ton of ground to make up on the Ducks and Longhorns...says his son will likely commit as planned and won't be committing to a school his son has never even visited.

I reiterate...

Coach: Dontre Wilson eyeing six schools
May, 10, 2012
By William Wilkerson | ESPN.com

DeSoto coach Claude Mathis just told me ESPN 150 athlete Dontre Wilson doesn't have a top two and is still trying to narrow down his top 6 schools.

The schools he told me are Texas, Oregon, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M.

Personally, I think Oregon and Texas are his favorites in that order. I know the distance is a concern to him in going to Oregon, but that could be something he chooses to accept if Texas doesn't dangle something more appealing than a "DJ Monroe" -type roll in front of his face. He is not happy about that.

It will be interesting to see what happens here if Oregon gets hit with any of the sanctions they are rumored to be receiving before Dontre signs on the dotted line.

Running back Dontre Wilson commits to Oregon during spring game

By Bryan Fischer | College Football Recruiting Blogger

After a moving target date for a commitment kept a lot of folks guessing, DeSoto (Texas) running back Dontre Wilson finally made up his mind and committed to Oregon at his spring game on Friday night, according to multiple reports.

The 5-foot-10, 165-pounder picked the program over Texas and Ohio State, among several other offers.

"He's a very speed, shifty back with exceptionally quick feet and great vision," MaxPreps analyst Tom Lemming said of Wilson. "Needs to add some weight and strength, but the talent, speed and instincts are certainly there."

The Ducks have had plenty of success recruiting backs from the Lone Star State in recent years, with LaMichael James being the most notable. Wilson's commitment gives Oregon three recruits total for the class of 2013, including the No. 10 overall player and speedy running back Thomas Tyner.

The on -off- and on again Buckeye recruitment of running back David Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic) looks to be off again ? this time for good. Long ago, Williams had been offered a scholarship by Ohio State, but things seemed to die during the football season.

However, in the past month or so Williams? name began to come up again in relation to OSU, and Williams said he was interested in making an official visit to Ohio State. In fact Williams said if the Buckeyes wanted him to make an official visit he would.

Well, we are now told the Ohio State staff has decided not to bring Williams in for an official visit. The OSU staff is interested in Oregon commitment Dontre Wilson, but the 5-foot-10 and 165-pound Wilson is seen as an H-back/slot/running back type guy with the kind of game-breaking ability Meyer is looking for. The OSU staff is still interested in adding a guy like Wilson, but not a pure running back like Williams.

I like that urban is keeping all of his options open, even if Wilson is a very very longshot. Elder and Timmons are our backup plans it seems, and he's behind them, imo. Still a very talented kid though

After watching De'Anthony Thomas last night I'd sure love a player like Wilson in this class. If Chip heads to the NFL I don't know how this guy doesn't move to the top of our wishlist for playmakers, especially if Gibson is on board.
