HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

Well, it's either some local Dispatch writer trying to just....

or Day's agent trying to leverage it for a better contract. Regardless with all the assistant coaching moves Day is making, I can't see him leaving.

10. RYAN DAY, OHIO STATE

2022 compensation: $7.6 million

The latest: Ryan Day's salary at Ohio State jumps to $7.6 million in 2022 as a part of an extension agreement signed ahead of the 2020 season after he was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for his early success in the post-Urban Meyer era for the Buckeyes. The new deal for Day is supposed to keep him in Columbus through at least through the 2026 football season. Day and the Buckeyes were scheduled to appear in the Big Ten Championship Game last season, with another College Football Playoff opportunity on the horizon, with a win at Michigan, but it didn't happen after Ohio State's lengthy winning streak over its archrival came to an end. Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith said in February he hasn't spoken with Day about his contract in some time.

“I don’t feel an urgency, no. I feel like we need to do it the right way with he and his family and with the university president and board of trustees, and we'll get to that,” Smith said. “But historically, you guys have watched, I have always tried to make sure that we compensate consistent with expectations and performance. But I don’t feel a sense of urgency.”

Day's UNH stats:

Day, the 1996 New Hampshire Gatorade High School Player of the Year, was recruited out of nearby Manchester Central High School by legendary Wildcat head coach and 2016 NFF College Football Hall of Fame inductee Bill Bowes. In 1999, then first-year head coach Sean McDonnell installed Day as UNH's starting quarterback under first-year offensive coordinator Chip Kelly.

In his tenure as Wildcat signal caller, Day set nine UNH records, including career marks for pass completions (653), touchdown passes (53), completion percentage (59.9 percent) and total offense (8,492 yards). He is still ranked third in program history in pass attempts (1,089) and fourth in both passing yards (7,670) and completions.

As a senior captain in 2001, Day established career highs with 233 completions (No. 9 in school history), 379 attempts (No. 8) and 2,605 passing yards (No. 10).

Day holds the University single-game mark for most pass attempts (65), which he set Nov. 4, 2000, when he helped rally the Wildcats from a 31-3, late third-quarter deficit to a 45-44, overtime victory at No. 2 Delaware.

That game was Delaware’s only regular season loss. The starting QB for the Blue Hens was Matt Nagy.
