HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

There is no question that Urban Meyer laid the foundation for everything that is happening this season. But he had one flaw. When it came to assistant coaches he was not "All In". If he were we would not have had Bill Davis and Zach Smith - or at least not for as long as we did.

Our game plans and our overall schemes this season have been magnificent because IMO Ryan Day is clearly All In on his coaching staff.

I have already told my wife that we will stop eating out on Thursday nights because I need to set that money aside to put in the truck that we back up to Ryan Day's house when the NFL comes calling.

Agreed that this is all built on Urban's foundation. The talent, and depth of that talent, are absurd.

I am however, ready to say that Ryan Day is a better offensive game planner and game day play caller than Meyer or Herman.

Fire away

So far it's hard to argue.

Also helps that Day may be just as good of a recruiter as Urban, if not slightly below.

we shall see on that one

I think his obvious skill, and reputation, at developing QB's and running an NFL offense will open the door for him to the best QB's and receivers.

Loooooonnnnnnnnnng way, and many years, to go before he can compare an overall body of recruiting work to Urban Meyer.

I agree... he really knows how to hurt teams and does such a good job planning. I also think he's better than Day and Meyer at planning and calling plays.

Too small of a sample for me so far. I tend to agree but will hold reservation just in case we shit the bed some time this season with some bone headed calls. But year to date, hard to argue.

One of the most common mistakes I’ve seen teams make is to try to do everything. It almost never works out.

Then there are the 2019 Buckeyes.
  • They can go 5 wide and spread the field.
  • They can stretch the field vertically.
  • They can run zone-read concepts in shotgun or pistol
  • They can play power football with a TE at flanker behind the LOS, essentially 22 personnel
  • I could go on but you get the idea
Many teams have tried to be this multiple. They end up sucking at everything. Most teams have to specialize and choose what they want to be good at.

These Buckeyes are great at everything.

Post Week-5 Bold Prediction

Ryan Day will be the first OSU coach since the 1979 season to be named the Big Ten Coach of the Year

People complain that he was handed the keys to a Lamborghini and anyone could’ve done what he did

Do you ever Kirk Ferentz, breh? He has them poised for a 9-4 season.

Everybody knows that the B1G COY goes to the Western Division coach that best manages a roster of 8-4 talent to an 8-4 record. PJ Fleck, your table is ready.

To me, his body of work as the OC go back to '17.

Seeing how he developed Haskins last year and what he's done with Fields so far this year, there is no doubt in my mind that Urban, left alone with an inferior OC, would not have gotten the same results.

We'd be seeing Fields run way too much and never would have seen Haskins do what he did.
