HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

Hope he doesn't have the blind loyalty problematic gene. He out coached Clemson, then he got his ass handed to his defense by Sark tonight. I have confidence in him, but let's hope he sees the issues that everyone else seems to see and fixes them.

Agree. He's better than 98% of the competition. Only question is whether he gets over that 2% hump that separates the elite from the VERY good.

Going to be really interesting to see what kind of changes he makes with the D
I’m going to be the only one banging this drum but I just don’t know how you can evaluate the defense based on this year. Like is there a defense who lost as much as we did, had no spring practice, and looked GOOD? Bama returned almost their entire defense and still looked suspect at times this year with a new coordinator.

Coupled that with the stop and start nature of the year and it’s hard to evaluate anything really. B1G is just as responsible for this asswhooping as coaching with the way they handled this year.

LSU certainly didn't and I'm still not sure that was Bo's fault

I agree on the B1G for sure. I just hate the no look DB coverage and think it sucks ass. A lot of top notch coaches teach that technique. Coombs is one of them. Hafley was in the camp that I like, and made fun of it as a technique. But we watched a decided change in technique this year from Hafley where we did not turn and look this year. To me, it causes a great deal more PI's and it also does not lead to INTs.

I made it clear I did not think we had our best 11 on the field. I won't go down that road again, but that to me is on Coombs. The Head Coach doesn't always pick the starter. Many times they leave that up to the position coach.

I thought we saw way too soft of coverage this year. Like we were scared. Reminded me of 06 vs Urban and the Gators and then Wither's secondary. This bend but don't break shit and trying to keep the ball in front of you. All that did was let them go down the field. I want to see more aggression and putting them behind the chains at least once during the drive and see if they can complete a 3rd and 15.

Tackling was not good this year either, too many missed tackles.

I'm not sure. If Mattison was planning to retire it would have been nice if Day could have told Freeman to hold off on ND
well i didn’t say he planned on retiring... and what position is Washington gonna coach if you bring in Freeman and who says Freeman comes to be Co-DC with Kerry Coombs?
