HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

Day hs the potential to be an NFL guy if he wants if he's a successful here. That's the difference between him and Meyer. Meyer was a college guy through and though

Day's current compensation is $4.5MM and will surely be renegotiated by tOSU if he is successful enough to draw interest from the NFL. The interest would have to be related to achieving success at the pinnacle of the sport, getting away from recruiting, etc. I would think that being a head coach at a destination school would hold the advantage that you needn't rely on the competence of the GM like in the NFL.

Leaving for the NFL will be used against him in recruiting as long as he is at OSU and having success.

Every year or two they will have to announce an extension.

Day is going to be able to make some crazy money if he's good.

I’m more confident on Day’s success going into year 1 than I was with Tress.

I'm not... I mean in some ways, I am... but it's a very different situation.
When Tress took over we were getting thrashed every year... so there wasn't much to lose. We could have a 4-loss season without the wheels falling off. Knew he would refocus on OH recruiting and putting up a fence. Also knew that Tressel was a good Head Coach. Peter Principle can be mitigated against by hiring people who have already shown success in that job position.
Right now we've got them backed into a corner ... there's a lot more to lose.
We've released the stranglehold on OH recruiting. Can Day continue recruiting nationally? Have to expect there will be some dropoff after Urban - nobody recruits like Urban. And he loves it. Can Day shore up the fences we've neglected?
How is the fanbase going to react? Urban is a tough act to follow and I predict a lot of angsty fans who have come to expect too much and are already frustrated with the Playoff snubs.
I think a lot depends on the 2019 season. We'll keep most of the 2019 class... maybe even the 2020 class regardless of results. But if we're not a national contender next year, the national recruiting will drop off. The Game and Big East results are even more important... hold the line, and Day will at least be guaranteed OH recruiting. If we lose the Game, it could open the door even more in a time of weakness and trying to reestablish those relationships.
I have full confidence Day will have the Offense rolling, especially if we hold onto Wilson and position coaches.
I have some questions about the Defense... without Haskins, this is probably a 3 or 4 loss year because of the defense. We don't have Haskins next year... and 3-4 losses won't cut it.
I'm not sure Day knows how to handle the defensive issues or be the CEO... but it's early days and not expecting major changes before the bowl game or NLOID. And while I hope Urban sticks around and helps him step into that role... it's also a shadow hanging over the program, not sure we can rely on Urban not exploring other opportunities, and some doubts Ryan would be able to fire somebody like Bill Davis while Urban is his mentor?
