Massive, Menacing Lizard Terrorizes South Florida Family

Zach Lieberman says “Godzilla’s smaller cousin” is wreaking havoc at his house.

‘Terror in Davie’

That might sound like the title of a B movie, but it’s a real-life nightmare for a family of four in South Florida who are being harassed by what looks like a prehistoric reptile on amphetamines.

“Dude, he’s big ― real big,” Zach Lieberman, 33, told HuffPost of the massive creature that’s been slinking around his house. “He’s every bit of 6-feet and every part of 100- to 150-pounds. He’s a monster.”

Lieberman’s wife, Maria, also 33, spotted the behemoth outside their Davie home on Sunday.

“My wife was walking by our sliding glass door and let out a pretty loud scream,” he said. “I ran over and looked out the shades on the door and, lo and behold, Godzilla’s smaller cousin was right there. It was alarming to me and terrifying to my wife and kids.”
.
.
.
“I was trying to lure it into my garage, so I could contain it, and it got a little aggressive,” he said. “He apparently got hip to my idea, turned on me and took off running. It was a full-on sprint. I’d thought this was a slow creature. Man, it’s not! That really frightened me because we have two small kids, 2 and 4 years old. They can’t go in the backyard now because this thing could dart out in an instant.”

The Liebermans contacted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which has been trying for the past several days to capture the slinky monitor. So far it has proved to be one slick lizard. It’s not falling for the dead rats they’re using as bait.
.
.
.
No one initially knew where the monitor came from. Although such lizards are sold at pet shops, it’s illegal to release any exotic pet in Florida, whether accidentally or intentionally. Officials said they had no record of anyone reporting a lost or stolen monitor.

I thought this was the "Outside of Florida" thread.

His video of getting fired is fairly funny. Not sure his job opportunities are going to take off though.

This Colombian Farmer Found $600 Million Belonging To Pablo Escobar

Jose Mariena Cartolos, 65, recently received a $3,000 grant from the Colombian government to start a palm oil plantation on a plot of land that has been in his family for more than 200 years. While digging a trench for irrigation on the land, Cartolos struck something odd. Upon further exploration, he discovered several large, blue containers. What he found inside was unfathomable. The containers were filled with cash, totaling $600,000,000! That is not a misprint. Six hundred MILLION dollars. The money is said to be a part of Pablo Escobar’s $30 billion fortune.

Besides money he also left hippos behind:

Could Pablo Escobar's Escaped Hippos Help the Environment?

Some scientists think Colombia's "cocaine hippos" could help fill-in for long extinct megafauna, while others argue that they should go.

upload_2018-9-27_10-49-29.png

WHEN THE NOTORIOUS drug lord Pablo Escobar was shot dead in 1993, the Colombian government took control of his luxurious estate in northwestern Colombia, including his personal zoo. Most of the animals were shipped away, but the four hippopotamuses—of which Escobar was especially fond—were left to fend for themselves in a pond. Now, there are dozens of them.

For over a decade the Colombian government has been pondering how to best curb the growing population, a strategy largely supported by conservation experts. But not everyone is on board. Without direct evidence that the animals are doing harm, some ecologists argue that there’s no reason to cull or relocate them. Indeed, the hippos could fill in for species that humans pushed to extinction thousands of years ago—an idea known as rewilding.

When the hippos were left behind, it accidentally kicked off a rewilding experiment that’s now been running for 25 years. The first results of this experiment are trickling in and much like the large animals, they’re muddying the waters.

The hippos have escaped Escobar’s former ranch and moved into Colombia’s main river, the Magdelena. Spread over a growing area, nobody knows exactly how many there are—but estimates range from a total population of 40 to 60, says Jonathan Shurin, an ecologist with University of California San Diego who studies the animals. Every year there are many babies, but it’s unknown how many reach adulthood.

Video captures runaway horse charging through sports bar, sending customers fleeing in panic

A horse ran into a bar and no, it's not the beginning of a joke. A young racehorse in France managed to escape her handler last month and go on a little joy ride to a nearby watering hole.

The filly's trainer Jean-Marie Beguignem told newspaper Ouest-France that he lost control of the animal as he led her from a stable to a racecourse in Chantilly, France, about 30 miles north of Paris.

Beguignem said the young horse has a fondness for running off.

Instead of choosing an open field, the horse headed into the nearest sports betting bar and terrified all of the patrons inside it.

Michigan cheerleader accused of handing out pot brownies as bribe to win homecoming queen

hartford-high-school-pot-brownie.png

A cheerleader at a Michigan high school was looking for another form of “higher education” when she handed out pot brownies in a bid to bribe students into voting for her for homecoming queen, police said.

The 17-year-old girl was caught selling the marijuana-laced treats after Hartford High School officials received an anonymous tip through the app OK2Say, FOX17 Michigan reported.

The girl, who has not been identified, distributed the brownies in exchange for support at the next homecoming dance, officials said.

They said some brownies were put in the football team’s homecoming week goodie bags.

"The principal mentioned they were getting some tips in about some possible brownies that may have been laced with marijuana oil," Hartford police officer Michael Prince told FOX17.

Don't microwave urine samples, Florida convenience store owner warns customers

A Florida gas station owner has placed a sign in her store, asking customers not to warm their urine samples in the microwave -- specifying that the oven is only for warming food.

Owner Parul Patel said she’s become “sick and tired” of people walking into her BP gas station and On the Fly convenience store in Jacksonville to warm their containers of urine.

“They're just random people walking [in] and it's happening every day,” Patel told Jacksonville's WJXX-TV.

Warming urine from someone who hasn’t taken drugs is seen by some as a way to help pass a drug test.

Patel's store is within walking distance of two labs, though one says it doesn’t collect samples for drug tests.

The people “walk in off the street, microwave their urine containers then leave,” she said.

Man lists 'used' girlfriend for sale on eBay, is shocked when bids reach $119G

Ebay-Girlfriend3.jpg

Well, that backfired.

A man who listed his girlfriend for sale on eBay as a prank was shocked when the bids reached over $119,000 within 24 hours.

Dale Leeks, who lives in London, “wanted to have a laugh” so he thought it would be funny to list his girlfriend of one year, Kelly Greaves, on the auction site, CTV News reports.

He described her condition as “for parts or not working” and wrote that she “starts OK but after that there’s a constant whining noise that I can’t seem to stop. Bodywork is fairly tidy but close up shows signs of wear. No serious damage but you can see that she’s been used.

“Please [bear] in mind when bidding she’s 37 years old. Basically first thing in the morning she can be very temperamental, once warmed up the whining noise lessens but I would be lying if I said it goes away completely. The rear end leaks a bit but nothing that can’t be plugged.

“Any offers considered…would be interested in a part exchange with a younger model. Sold as seen, no returns.”

When Leeks showed the listing to Greaves, she didn’t think anyone would see it. But when the couple went to dinner that night, Leeks’ cell phone started “going crazy” with hundreds of bids and crude messages from interested parties around the world.

76-Year-Old Tennessee Man Tries To Attack Son With Chainsaw, Son Runs Him Over With Lawn Mower
BRISTOL, Tenn. – A Tennessee man lost one of his legs after his son, trying to fend off the 76-year-old’s chainsaw attack, drove over the older man with a lawn mower, according to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office.

The father, identified as Douglas Ferguson, of Bristol, now faces a charge of attempted second degree murder, according to the Bristol Herald Courier.

The incident happened June 28, but, because of the severity of the injury, authorities weren’t able to serve the arrest warrant until Tuesday.
