Herbstreit in the DOG house..

Yeah I remember him talking about that...I think he's wrong. I think the way our offense is set up, you could offer a kid a chance to play right away. I see no reason why a prime time running back, O-lineman, or TE wouldn't love to come play for Ohio State.

Herbstreet has a job to do. But he also is a big whiner when everyone doesn't like him. It seems to me that he is surprised by the reaction that he gets. He is on National Television and gets the paycheck, putting up with things like this is part of the reason why it's so damn big. I wish he would just stop whining

That said, criticism is this offense and team is easy. We just are not that good right now. If he is going to be honest, and unbiased he does have a job to do and I think he does a fair job.

I do think however that he should take a bigger stand against the allegations or at least make a bigger point to say that their is nothing going on here that he can find, and point out that the article provides no material facts, just the hear say of questionable charachters that have played for us in the past.

You don't get it. I am NOT implying Herby has a responsibility to be a tOSU mouthpiece. But, He does have the oppurtunity to defend OSU and he has CHOSEN not to do so. There is HUGE difference between being a tOSU cheerleader every week and defending his alma mater when being attacked with false allegations. I am very disappointed in his silence.
The problem with that is, none of us are 100% sure these are false allegations, like it or not. Imagine what could happen to him if he spoke out and was wrong.

I seriously don't understand the flak that Herbie gets from Buckeye fans. This guys has proven, time and again, his love for TOSU. So he picks against them...so what? It's rare, but guess what? TOSU does lose a game every now and again. His job is to pick the winner...

As for his comments regarding any potential offensive recruit, well, he's right. Why would a blue chip offensive player come to TOSU? And don't give the bullshit speech about how the offense is young and inexperienced. It all comes down to coaching, and playcalling. Period. Look at scUM - they have a true frosh at RB, a true frosh at QB, and if I'm not mistaken, their offensive line is pretty young as well. The difference is, they aren't conservative on O. Tressel is very easy to plan for. Think about it - if TOSU is running the ball, they're going to run the ball up the middle. Every time. TOSU will run the ball every first down. Up the middle. If TOSU lines up in a five wide, there are only two plays that we'll run out of that formation. Either Smith runs a draw, or he throws a 2-5 yard out to the WR. Every second down that TOSU has is going to be second and long, because the run on first down didn't net any yardage. Tressel allows the opposing defense to dictate the game, because of his playcalling. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not some douchenozzle BNer who thinks Tressel should be fired....the whole point of this rant is to point out that - like it or not - Herbie is right about TOSU's offense, and whether or not a top offensive recruit should come here.

Couple things...

One... Herbsrteit is stuck in the middle of this. But, I've heard him being nothing but supportive of Gieger and his stance on this issue. I hope someone informs Andy of this.

Seems to me There is some sort of fucked up conspiracy theory out there that Herbstreit isn't supporting OSU in the MoC issue because he is critcizing the OSU offense... you connect the dots, [I guess it means Herbie wants Tressel out.]

What a joke.

Herbstreit has been criticizing our offense all year... and why? BECAUSE IT SUCKS. It would suck with or without Mr. Such and Such. (Anybody else think "Mr. Such and Such" sounds like one of Dr. Evil's Henchman?)

As a previous poster pointed out, all Herbstreit can do is say, "I never saw anything like that go on." and also support the way the University is handling the problems... which he has done... What he can't do is say that his own network is lying, because he is fucked whether they are or not...

I'm sure he is privately infuriated with the ESPN Magazine people for putting him in this position, he likely doesn't know Tom Friend... (And if he does, its an accident). (I'm sure the game day people are infuriated with the Magazine too. You think Fowler and Herbstreit want to party with a buch of Mormons?)

But here's how disconnected, at least Tom Friend is, with the rest of the network.... When he came on 1460 and Damon Bruce was interviewing him... a couple of different times, when asked about MoC's demeanor or character, Friend interjected comments along the lines, "Well I'm sure you've been in contact with him before there in Columbus and probably have a better idea of what he's like," etc. etc. Well, of course Damon Bruce has no idea what Clarett is like... because... well... he's been working at ESPN radio and not in Columbus for the last 4 years. Friend doesn't give a fuck about Herbstreit... Neither does his editor.

Also... just found this accidentally"

Herbstreit on 1460's website... regarding the Game.

Now, regarding the Clarett situation, I really don't believe it's been the painful distraction to the players and coaches as many believe. Understand, these guys are living and breathing football 24/7, or in the case of the players, going to school as well.

There's simply not enough time to pay attention, or to be affected to any large degree, by the controversy. If anything, it might bring the team closer together, as controversy often does.

It's worth noting that as a former OSU player, I can attest that I was never offered inducements by any boosters nor saw or heard of any such activity going on.

If any of Clarett's allegations are true, it's difficult for me to fathom. After all, he's not the first great player to walk through the doors at Ohio State. There are several former OSU stars in the NFL right now, in fact.

And in casual conversation with some of them last week, all said they were never given “$100 handshakes” or any other prohibited benefits.

I didn't see any problem with what he said, but there have been major twists on peoples words recently. All Buckeyes are up in arms.
Sorry on this one I don't agree! Herbdick is pushing his luck and has crossed the line of a true buckeye. I don't know if JT or another staff member pissed him off or he is simply trying to impress his colleagues. But he is not impressing me or a lot of true Buckeye fans. Bottom line is there is no twisting of words here, Geigers 100 % right! One other thing about ineffectiveness, I have seen much improvement over the last four weeks on offence haven't you? In edition Anything negative said on our website could not land us that next great recruit. Herbstreit says these things on live TV ... not to mention on the GAMEDAY show.
Fuck herstreit!

Pissed him off? Impress his Colleaugues?

How about doing his fucking job. He's a football ANALYST. He is paid for his opinion.

You may not agree with his opinion and that's fine... but "Crossed the line of a true buckeye?"

Also- the taboo Negativity on the recruiting board has to do with the recruits themselves... not whether Lydell Ross can hit a hole.

Dude, take a pill. Herbie has always just called it like he sees it. This is no different, the same conversations (about offensive recruits) were being had on BN 2yrs ago. I wouldn't suppose you recognize the name Dewayne Jarret? Personally I don't think it matters, tOSU will get their share and no one gets them all.

Herbie is in a tough situation, and personally if I was Gieger I would've called him to clarify before I called him out in the media. I really don't think it is fair for anyone to question his loyalties to the university.

As far as this comment

Herbdick is pushing his luck and has crossed the line of a true buckeye

Fuck you, how dare you presume to talk for "true Buckeyes". Speak for yourself. Just because he made some critisisms about the program does not mean he, or anybody else that cares enough to voice a constructive critisism does not love our great university.
