Herby apologizes on behalf of ESPN for Mark and Trev!!

ysubuck said:
This was great.
On the afternoon show today, Herbie said that he was embarassed after Andy Geiger "did us a favor" and came on with Tirico.

Said that Mark and Trev showed "no class" in their commentary on Coach Tressel and Andy Geiger. Also said that he can't wait to "say hello" to Mark and Trev when he sees them tomorrow in Florida.

He said that he wanted to publicly apologize to Ohio State and Andy Geiger and that he was embarassed for ESPN after seeing/hearing how Mark and Trev acted during the halftime show and before and after the game.

Thought it showed a lot of class.
in showing class, herbie will confront them off camera. slinging mud from behind a camera is the mark of a coward. standing toe to toe with someone and telling them what you think of them and their actions takes a pair. something mark nor trev can relate to.

Alan, I like your thinking with Herbie

as for saying that Herbie would be better off to let the investigation get completed before he unloads on Trev and May....

.....I agree with that....

but if the NCAA does exonerate OSU and determines OSU to be and to have been vigilant in the self-reporting and policing itself, then I would be disappointed if Herbie didn't take them to task....

...but in private I hope he gives it to those jerkoffs

as for the recommendation of OSU to a recruit.....yeah, that's not totally off base, but that was a much harsher statement than I recall him using on any other team

I am not sure whom some of you are referring to when you say things like "we are riding Herbie" or that we are asking him to sacrifice his job for us. I would just like to clarify my post "I would like to see these apologies and admissions of embarrassment on Sportscenter or Gameday instead of an afternoon radio program." by saying that it has absolutely nothing to do with Kirk. I have always liked Kirk and respected him for always keeping his head up out of the toilet water. My post is simply pointing out that a Mistake was made on the Front Page and the retraction can be found a week later in the classifieds.

I agree that Kirk can do more good behind the scenes showing class than doing it infront of a camera and such..and I know alot of people were upset about Herbie saying stuff about not recomending an offensive recruit to play for Ohio State....Wasn't almost every Buckeye fan saying that? He since that time has said that the offensive we have now, he'd be all for telling a player to go there...and you gotta think about him...he has to go all around the country and see these fun high powered offenses, you know he thinks to himself, "Why can't My Buckeyes have an offense like this?!"...and why I believe he's harsher on Ohio State than any other school, is cause he passion for Our Bucks, and wants to see them be so awesome in every phase of the game, just like us, so he goes off the deep end sometimes, just like us...you gotta give the guy more credit, I remember him telling a story about Kicking anyone's ass that says one bad thing about tOSU when he was a little kid, I'm sure that passion has grown even more since then.

scumbuster, davey and others.....i am not accusing anyone on this site of anything....sorry if it came across that way....but i did read the same thread on another site and it was sickening.....

just trying to make sure that doesnt happen here.....everyone is entitled to their own opinion and good debate is constructive.....it is just that "herbie" is a sensitive subject right now with all of the recent developments...

I could not agree more. This guy is as much of a buckeye fan than any of us. He just has to balance it. I do not believe he is any harsher on the Bucks than anyone else it is just that his collegues look to him as the authority on tOSU and he must be objective.

Kirk deserves some slack, but not as much as you say

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

he has a job to do......no doubt
his job is to be objective....no doubt
picking the Bucks to win every week regardless is not objective....no doubt
making negative comments on a pertinent subject is part of the job..no doubt

but saying "if I were an offensive recruit I would NOT go to Ohio State"
.....that is NOT objective....if it were then he would say the same thing about Virginia Tech, LSU....and he would say that a defensive recruit should not go to Miami, Florida, USC............you get my drift

sitting there and nodding your head while Corso goes off on Ohio State and names a bunch of offenders and their offense and then clearly imply that NONE had been disciplined by Tressel...........that is NOT being objective

Herbie is in a bad spot here......but he needs to balance out some of the false accusations and the unobjective gibberish being spewed by guys sitting next to him

........he won't do this, but he ought to call out both May and Alberts and ask these questions:

to May........."Mark, you played for Jackie Sherrill...who is well known for having been guilty of major infractions at 2 schools......were you EVER offered any benefit that is against the rule? If May says NO then Herbie should say..."OK, then Sherrill only cheated AFTER he left Pitt, is that what we're supposed to believe?"

to Trev....."Trev, you played for Osborne.....are you PROUD of his decision to let Christian Peter and Lawrence Phillips play despite their assault charges and eventual convictions? Do you think these guys should have been held out of more games than they were?"

too bad he won't do that because that would get him fired.....but it would be nice

no apology necessary, Alan...but I am still upset

with Herbie for his comments about the legitimacy of Ohio State's NC in 2002....

first, immediately after the Sugar Bowl last year he made the outrageous statement....and this is a paraphrase..."it's too bad that we're going to have a split NC this year with LSU and USC.....the 2 teams now should have to face each other to settle it on the field......just like they should have done last year after the Fiesta Bowl"

Herbie DID say that then....and then he said it again in late November on GameDay before the conference championship games

that, my friends, is absolutely inexcusable and outrageous.....

Ohio State's 2002 NC was probably the most legitimately earned EVER....EVER

1. OSU beat the invincible Miami to end their 33 game win streak
2. The BigTen went 5-2 in bowls against incredible competition
3. OSU was the only team to ever go 14-0

You know what this shows me, personally?

That Herbie knows ESPiN is WRONG about the allegations against OSU. He has the insider info and knows what ESPiN is doing is WRONG. That gives me even MORE confidence in JT and AG. God Bless them BOTH!

I had always enjoyed Herbie's coverage of sports...hey, he's a Buckeye...and I was proud.

Things change. Herbie was quick to jump on JTressel this year for coaching competence. He came out with the unbelievable statement about recruits shouldn't consider Ohio State because of the inept offense. My, what courage. What foresight. What Bull shit.

Herbie is an espn homer. I won't forget his contribution to the Buckeyes, but he hasn't played any constructive part in making a case for Ohio State in the MC or the TS controversy.

I say Herbie pissed in the grits at the Family Reunion.

Let's see Herbie confront Twedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb on the air, on espissn, with his Buckeye redemption!

Until then, Herbie is part of the espissn problem, just trying to buy his way back to Ohio. Until he performs, fuck him.

I can't believe we are going back to when he said he would have a hard time telling an offensive recruit to go to Ohio State :smash:

When he said those remarks are offense looked like shit. We couldn't run we couldn't pass block and we barely can gain 150 yards in a game! He basically said what we were all afraid of, that our offense would be so enemic how could we recruit any offensive skill players to come when they look at the offense and say "How are they going to show off my skillz?"

Well, since then our offense opened up and our young players started to come through. Ginn started playing and our younger players that we put in started performing. All of the sudden things are better and Herbie even said after Michigan "Where did this offense come from" and said he would be first in line to play for that offense.

What he really wanted was an offensive coordinator, which is what everyone was screaming for back then when he made those comments. And he made that comment on national TV, but he no way said the recruiting remarks on national TV, he said those on his radio show to a local audience.

But he has to be reserve right now on how he fights back on ESPN right now until some good news hits. He would almost commit suicide on his job if he rips Trev & May and his employers and then we find out more players got $100 handshakes and then his credibility takes a huge hit.

What if Herbie did what you all said after the Michigan game? And then we find out Troy took money... it would make him look like a fool! What if he says what you all want him to do and we find out another player or two took money? He wants all of this out in the open and if this is all done before next season I can see him laying the wood to ESPN and the haters there during the preseason shows for next year after all the facts are out. And definately during the pre-game show in Columbus on September 10th before the Texas game.

I agree 100% with you. I didn't like Herbies comments anymore than anyone else, but they were true. I guess thats what made it so hard. I wasn't calling for JT's head, but I sure was getting fustrated with not having a competant running game in two seasons and our passing game wasn't much better.

We finally opened up a bit in the Marshall game. 3 td passes in the first half and Zwick was TEARING IT UP then we went in our shell again because we had the lead. It seemed as if it was only the defense that had the killer instinct and they were young, and getting tired from being out on the field constantly. JT was GREAT at every aspect of the game except his offensive philosophy. He was great at making it a "team" oriented game. All 3 phases of the game complimenting each other. ST is the glue that creates the good field position for both offense and defense. Defense creates turnovers and gives our offense the ball back as quick as possible. Offense at least get in range to score or else hold the ball long enough to get the defense in good field position and get them rested with ball control.

Well, we couldn't run the ball for shit. Our passing game suffered because of it and the fact that we ran short routes and flooded zones with curl and crossing patterns and it became predictable. Our Oline was playing TERRIBLE at the begginning of the year after all the hooplah about how good and strong and quick it was going to be....

Well, the final two and a half games we opened up the offense. Finally went down field with the football. We were scoring points almost at will for the last 2 and a half games. I truly hope JT keeps this philosphy because I believe we will win 10 games a year with this offensive strat. I was sick of seeing other coaches build their programs and never seem to have a real down year. Now I believe we will be a truly elite program year after year with this new offensive strategy.
