is there ANY respect for UM down there or just pure, pissy hate?

My feelings toward your team are one of grudging acceptance. I accept you have some talented players and accept that you are one part of the greatest rivalry in sports. In other words I believe you are a necessary evil. In many ways it is important for you to exist if for no other reason that we can more clearly see the greatness of the Buckeyes in contrast to your team.

But respect??

I personally can't make that leap- maybe others can- there are too many things I dislike about your team and the culture that has been created in AA.

First, sorry to hear about Perry's mother, that's awful. That said, take off those maize glasses for a sec. Running up numbers against defenses like Houston, Eastern Michigan, Indiana, and Northwestern doesn't impress me. Do you Honestly think Perry will be drafted before any of the players I mentioned? I don't. Stats don't impress me for a number of reasons so quite frankly I don't care how many yards he's run for.

i've been cool. just want to bs with people.

Keep it that way and you'll be OK here. The management wants this to be (first and foremost) a board for Buckeyes, but they also like the discourse of intelligent fans from other schools. Have some thick skin (at least until people "respect" you as a poster-you need to earn it) and avoid flamming & trolling.

respect?, of course we respect Michigan and the rivalry. I think 99% of the people here just enjoy to joke about 'scUM'.

Like so many other years, our game this season could well help define the national championship picture. OSU/Michigan in my mind is a rivalry only second (perhaps) to Navy/Army. OSU and Michigan represent the top tier in the Big Ten, and often the upper tier in the national scene. In terms of impact on college football as a whole, the OSU/Mich rivalry has to be #1.

That this is the 100th meeting makes it that much more special. We're really going to appreciate winning that one, marking the 3rd straight OSU win in a 3 game series where 2 were in the Pig House. (See, 'pig'/'big', just a joke).

You'll find better discourse here than some other OSU boards, expect to take some ribbing, but probably less than I'd expect were I to venture over to umgoblue.com for example.

Taking 'respect?' as a nick makes me suspect you're here to make a few points and then never return. I appreciate that you're not just trying to make a stink, and that you're taking jabs well. Should you decide you'd like to stick around and provide Weasel perspective more often, and would like a more suitable nick, just PM me.

clarity - yeah, 'respect?' wasn't the greatest tag but it was the first thing that came to mind when reading some of the threads involving UM. and i really didn't plan on being around long, i kinda feel like i'm trespassing on this site. just wanted to talk about THE GAME.

bucknutty - i don't think perry should win the heisman or anything, i just think he's the best (at least top 2-3). yes, he got some yards against bad teams, but so did the 4 guys you listed. nobody plays a top 10 team every week. and those aren't padded numbers. he doesn't play any longer thn he should in blowouts.

buckskin - i would love to hear more about the 'culture created in ann arbor' that you have such a problem with. can you explain?

I think at times that alot of mental midgets come out and make fooloish statements in regards to this great rivalry.

I'm a "Coach Hayes" guy. He is the reason that I follow this football team. This rivalry has always been a great one, but it totally heated up when Coach Schembechler took over at dUMb. Things got real bitter at times, but what we need to remember as fans is that Coach Hayes and Coach Schembechler were great friends off the field. Both of these fine men would have gladly died for the other, throw the "Game" aside.

I totally despise Michigan football for approximately 3 hours a year. In a perfect world we would both be undefeated every year going into "The Game."

"Respect?" Yea, you guys have it from me.

But, "The Mean one" may not feel the same way!

Respect may be a little strong. I do root for ******** most of the time. This week thought, I can't say it, don't want to hear it and really hate seeing it. The Bucks know it will be a though game, and, I think, are ready for it.

My whole point is that I don't understand why Michigan fans feel a need to continually ask for respect in this game, just as I don't understand the bashing that OSU is taking in theDetroit press. If this rivalry taught me anything, it ceratinly taught me to expect anything. I witnessed the 1969 OSU heartbreak, as I witnessed Greg Lantry's missed field goals in consecutive years from almost identical spots on the field to seal victories for OSU. I do not remember a single instance where this game was ruined by a player's poor sportsmanship. Even Woody's tirades were used by him as a segway for the next season. Respect is something that must be earned and has been earned, it is not something that one demands on a bulletin board.

it is because of the respect for scum that makes beating them three times in a row soooo much more enjoyable........

Okay, I can admit it. I respect the michigan team. They have a very solid team this year, which everyone expected. The matchup Saturday of their offense against the OSU defense should be great.

It's what this game is all about. The two top teams in the conference playing for the right to be outright B10 champs, a chance to go to the Rose Bowl, or more, in the last game of the season. Plus, they are each other's biggest rivals.

One note though, it is not a war. The players will play their hearts out and leave everything on the field, but they are not fighting for their lives or our freedoms. It is still just a game.

I don't think there is a respect issue here. Any true OSU fan gives Michigan respect, and I'd like to think the same thing is true for Michigan fans. A lot of the shots that are delivered by OSU fans during the season are out of good nature, that is why there is such a rivalry here. We passionately want to be in the title game in January and you guys stand in our way (some things never change), you guys want to be in the Rose Bowl and we stand in your way.

Respect? I think the team who deserves respect is OSU. Last time I checked we were #2 in the BCS and are a one touchdown underdog on Saturday. We are the only team that can win on a Saturday and drop in the polls. We have to constantly sit and hear from the media and fans from all around the country how good and balanced your team is. We have to sit and listen to critics and sports reporters tell us how we suck on a weekly basis and how were overmatched........and yet we still find a way to win. Everyone has written us off once again, but I think that these assumptions are premature. OSU is very good in big games under the lead of Jim Tressel. Go back through the last few years and point out the number of road losses he has against ranked teams.

OSU will be ready to play, they will probably show you something that you haven't seen this year, whether its a more explosive offense or trick plays, chances are we have a few wrinkles for you. I am very excited for this game, I expect a well played, hard hitting battle between two top 5 teams. This is what it is all about.

As for Respect...........The feeling is mutual, I think you can see the logic behind that.

You have a good team, a great RB, talent at the WR, and a D... only prob. I see with scUM (outside of those ugly colors, and the fact they are in TSUN) is your QB.... (now that I said that watch him rip us up like we are swiss cheese)...

Isn't your team favored? I don't know what more "respect" you are looking for... you have a great team, the game is in your house (aka the Pig House :tongue2: ), and there is a lot at stake for both teams.... I think it is safe to say both teams know this will be a tough game...

Don't know what you posted before the edit, however if you try to flame, the guys on this board will eat you... this board is not subject to being PC like some other boards, and if somebody stirs the pot, they will get tossed around, then nuked... with that said it is great to talk ball with other teams fans, and you will be treated well if that is what you came to do...

Welcome to the board, I hope you stop in frequently, it's nice to talk with other fans...

lightningrod - i'm not demanding respect, i'm simply asking if there is any. the few buckeye fans i know personally (former classmates and friends) have NO respect for UM. they think the sun rises and sets in columbus. i wondered if they were the norm or the exception. we had an interesting conversation over the summer. i asked if UM was in a national championship game, would you want them to win. i got a 'NO'. fact is, last year almost every UM fan i knew said they wanted tOSU to beat miami for reasons such as B10 loyalty, for the good of midwest football, etc. from my past experience, i would have to say not many tOSU fans would do the same for Michigan.

i'm not trying to ruffle feathers here, fellas. just trying to get a grasp on the buckeye mind.

also, didn't mean to misuse the word "war'. didn't mean any disrespect to the vets on the board. a lot of my family has served as well.

I for one root for all Big Ten teams when playing ooc games... would I root for scUM in the NC game, prob. not only because friends of mine who are scUM fans would rub it in my face (just like '97, until last year) and I frankly wouldn't want to hear it... However I normally root for All Big Ten schools during Bowl season, and ooc games before we get into conference play...
