High Buckeye Offense Expectations?

it's called scheme, and the inability to counter the defense

true, but he was still a FIRST ROUND TALENT, with the speed, agility, and gamebreaking ability of a first round pick.............remember the reverse against (Indiana?), that was a thing of beauty, i believe a 43 yd. TD run...........how many other times did we see that during the year? any???...........he had great athletic ability, and average hands, but was still rarely utilized, you get a guy like that in space and let him make plays, or let him burn the defense deep ala Miami in the Fiesta Bowl.......his abilities on offense were not capitalized on
Had he stayed at reciever, he would not have been taken in the first round. CK had alot to do with an anemic offense as well.

Anyone expecting tOSU to be a Fun & Gun kind of team is setting themselves up for frustration and disappointment IMHO.

As long as the improvement shown in the final two ballgames continues, the offense will be formidable.

With all of the talent, there will be plenty of big plays...but don't expect JT to change his ways once he gets the lead.

Just my opinion...Though I won't shed any tears if he unveils some high octane scoring machine and proves me wrong
Agreed.

I'm making sure not to expect OSU to lead the nation in offense, and the fact is, we don't have to do that with our defense. I do, however, expect something better than 90th or 105th in the nation. We can't rely entirely on punting and field goals.

If we're in the Top 40/50 on offense AND in red zone scoring, we'll be kicking some ass as a team.

Exactly. In fact, if he had stayed at WR, he would've been luck to have even been drafted. Regardless of mistribuck's love affair with Gamble, CG was a decent-at-best WR.

Anyone know of a team called scUM? or Purdue? hwo did those high powered offenses fare? A team that can execute a conservative offense well will beat a high-powered, risk-prone offense most of the time in terms of overall wins per season.

And I love how people think that he doesn't let the offense turn it on against good teams. They did pretty well against the #7 NC State. I think there was a scUM game last year, but maybe I was mistaken. And the offense seemed to be pretty decent against OkState.
NC State? (OSU was 7, NCSU was not)
.......................................... OSU.....NCSU
NET YARDS RUSHING.............64.......157
NET YARDS PASSING.............73.........99

that was 04 (22-14 OSU)...

03 - (Double OT (44-38 OSU))
...........................................NCSU.....OSU
RUSHES-YARDS (NET)............30-21...32-44
PASSING YDS (NET)................315........273

I don't disagree with your point, BFS, just pointing out a bad example.

With our offense, you are exactly right. He would have never gotten the ball. Better chance to display his gamebreaking skills on defense.

All you guys rooting for us to ACHIEVE #40 offensively is truly sad. If that is our GOAL, we have a long way to go...

Peace.

Number 40. Why did 60 other teams just drop from D1?

Gamble was our #2 WR in 2002, even after his switch to full-time corner, so he had plenty of chances. I remember him dropping quite a few balls as a receiver, and several interceptions at corner. He was, and is, and great athlete, but his catching skills weren't exactly world-class. So, our offense really wasn't the reason for his non-production as a receriver.

Gamble was a Cooper style player!

Got to agree 100% with Mili on Gamble......Geez, did I actually say that? Gamble was a Cooper like player, great talent, mixed performance. Disappointing last year. Was thinking about his money too much.

Isn't there a perception that even with a powerful offense, JT won't run up the score? He's got too much class.
