HOLA Bucknuts!! (Just funnin, do I get to say BuckNUTS?)

HeftyHusker

El Conquistador
Hey fellow football freaks. HeftyHusker (realist) checking in just before game time tomorrow.

Our Offense has been pretty good so far, if we can only stay clear of disastrous turnovers and penalties. I think we may be able to score some.

HOWEVER:

Our Defense has been deplorable vs good teams since Suh left 10 years ago, and that will be the difference in this game. We're going to lose, but I hope we can keep you under 60. I've learned not to expect much defensively.

You'll get it done tomorrow, and we'll pin our hopes on beating Wisky for a signature win for the year. At least we'll make a bowl game this year. That'll be nice for a change.

Good luck and hopefully injuries will be kept to a minimum on both sides.

Not the victory but the action

You guys are 1-2 years away. Frost was left a dumpster fire. You guys need more depth and better talent on defense. OL is another area you have to get better at.

I see flashes when I watch your team. In another year or two your offense will be lethal.

Gotta give Frost time. The more you win the better he will recruit.

Nebraska can win but IMO we are gonna have to help you.

I think the score will be 63-21 Buckeyes. I think we get a couple non offensive TD's. One on defense and another on special teams. This is a mismatch in the trenches.

Nebraska and OSU will have some big games in years to come. I think Frost turns you around. I just think our team is special this year. Best team since 2014-2015.

Good luck.

Welcome.

Love having Nebraska in the league. Will love it even more once Frost builds up the depth and you can help balance out the West.

Been looking forward to seeing what we can do against Martinez. You will score, but if we can't slow him down we don't have the D I think we have.

What are your thoughts on a walk-on starting at G?

My thoughts drift back sadly to the days of the pipeline offensive lines we use to have. Wilks, Weigert, Zatechka, etc. I weep for our O lines recently... hopefully Frosty can renew that tradition at some point.
This is no joke, some of the best guards in the history of guards played at Nebraska (Will Shields, Steinkuhler, Aaron Taylor, Boomer Brown). I have been shocked at the precipitous decline of offensive lineman over the last 20-25 years.

Just an honest thought about Nebraska in 2019 and the future: how and where do you recruit nowadays? It has to be extremely hard to get kids to buy in, to playing and living in the middle of nowhere for the next 4-5yrs. At least in the 90s and before, they were one of the few powers, but now, where is the recruiting base to ensure that Frost does indeed have continued success?

welcome. I love everything about Nebraska. the history. the stadium and the way fans in Lincoln treat visiting fans. Ill be rooting for the Buckeyes to insert the plunger on Saturday for sure. But will continue to pull for the Huskers the rest of the way.

Awesome. I think we affect a lot of folks that way. Appreciate that you'll be pulling for us vs. Wisky, et al.

From 1963-2001, Nebraska had an overall record of 389-76-5, for a winning percentage of .833, and five national championships. The Huskers had 9+ wins every year during that span except 1967 and 1968 when they were 6-4 both seasons; and they had 10+ wins 22 times.

In terms of wins and winning percentage, the next closest team was Penn State, with a record of 345-108-3, and a .760 winning percentage. So the Huskers had 44 more wins, and their winning percentage was 63 points higher, than the second best team. Unreal. Amazing that they had only five NCs during that span.

Since 2002, however, the Huskers have been, shall we say, mediocre. Their overall record is 133-87-0, for a .605 winning percentage (33rd best in FBS, and 228 points lower than their 1963-2001 winning percentage). Their best record during that span was 10-3 in 2003, and they have had 5 losing seasons (and one 7-7 season). The Huskers have obviously not been in the NC discussion, but they don't even have a conference championship or a "major" bowl appearance from 2002 to the present.

The reversal of fortunes has been incredible. The Huskers were the most dominant program in CFB for four decades, and for the past two decades they have been a perennial also-ran. Recruiting is a big factor, but the Huskers' floor should probably be 9 wins (like Wisconsin). For the sake of the Big Ten long term, it would be nice if Frost could turn the Nebraska program around. As far as tomorrow goes, I'm glad that they're still an also-ran.
