Hey fellow football freaks. HeftyHusker (realist) checking in just before game time tomorrow.

Our Offense has been pretty good so far, if we can only stay clear of disastrous turnovers and penalties. I think we may be able to score some.

HOWEVER:

Our Defense has been deplorable vs good teams since Suh left 10 years ago, and that will be the difference in this game. We're going to lose, but I hope we can keep you under 60. I've learned not to expect much defensively.

You'll get it done tomorrow, and we'll pin our hopes on beating Wisky for a signature win for the year. At least we'll make a bowl game this year. That'll be nice for a change.

Good luck and hopefully injuries will be kept to a minimum on both sides.

Welcome!! Besides the bucks I enjoy watching Nebraska as a 2nd team.

You guys are going to be downright scary in a year or two but unfortunately for you all this is one of the most experienced OSU teams we've had in quite some time.

Stick around!!

Welcome to the board. We have a couple of other Husker fans that post here and have been a great part of the community. I’m a born-and-bred Buckeye transplant in Nebraska and there truly isn’t a better fan base out there than the Husker faithful.

From 1963-2001, Nebraska had an overall record of 389-76-5, for a winning percentage of .833, and five national championships. The Huskers had 9+ wins every year during that span except 1967 and 1968 when they were 6-4 both seasons; and they had 10+ wins 22 times.

In terms of wins and winning percentage, the next closest team was Penn State, with a record of 345-108-3, and a .760 winning percentage. So the Huskers had 44 more wins, and their winning percentage was 63 points higher, than the second best team. Unreal. Amazing that they had only five NCs during that span.

Since 2002, however, the Huskers have been, shall we say, mediocre. Their overall record is 133-87-0, for a .605 winning percentage (33rd best in FBS, and 228 points lower than their 1963-2001 winning percentage). Their best record during that span was 10-3 in 2003, and they have had 5 losing seasons (and one 7-7 season). The Huskers have obviously not been in the NC discussion, but they don't even have a conference championship or a "major" bowl appearance from 2002 to the present.

The reversal of fortunes has been incredible. The Huskers were the most dominant program in CFB for four decades, and for the past two decades they have been a perennial also-ran. Recruiting is a big factor, but the Huskers' floor should probably be 9 wins (like Wisconsin). For the sake of the Big Ten long term, it would be nice if Frost could turn the Nebraska program around. As far as tomorrow goes, I'm glad that they're still an also-ran.

All of this is true. Nebraska's pitiful downturn started (and I hate to admit this as much as I hate eating a grub worm...not that I have) at Colorado with a 2001 loss. We were ranked #1 going in, but, having not beaten us in over a decade, CU had been getting closer and closer every year; and finally the dam broke to the tune of a 62-36 beatdown. That was followed by a dismal showing against a far superior Miami team in a national championship we never should have been playing in to begin with. Miami let up in that game, they could have put up 80 easily. The DC (Craig Bohl, current WYO head coach and legend now at North Dakota St) was canned, and 2 years later Fearless Frankie Solich was fired as HC, breaking the 45-yr tradition of coaching continuity at Neb: Devaney--->Osborne----->Solich. Things have been spiraling since.

However, Nebraska just became a member of the 900 wins club last week with a win at Illinois. Puts us at #6 on the all time victories list. Get that list here Things like that have to have an impact on a kid. Plus, you get a clean-cut winner like Scott Frost in the living room and he can seal a deal with the mom or grandma.

WAY to long to read, I know, but thought you guys might be interested in how NU has become an also ran recently.

Welcome, man. Really hope you stick around after the game and join us in the “College Football” section for ongoing discussion pertinent to other teams and games.

I'll be around here, win or lose, next week. I get my Interwebs at the local library which doesn't re-open until Tuesday. Definitely I"ll check in then.
Thanks for the welcome

Yeahhh... I remember that game.

I remember that game well and I remember KSU beating OU in Arrowhead too in the big 12 championship game really bad.

I was actually at Arrowhead for that game. I had bought BXIICCG tickets weeks ahead of time. Huskers and Sooners generally respect each other quite a bit, but the Sooner fans that night were SO goddam cocky and mouthy I was glad they lost.
