Houston Texans (official thread)

Are the Texans bluffing in saying they won't trade Watson, or are they serious? Something has to give. I think from the Houston standpoint, you might as well trade Watson because you are in rebuilding mode thanks to BOB'S stupidity. Why have a marquee QB if the rest of the team is mediocre? Might as well deal Watson for draft picks and start over with a rookie QB so you can augment the roster in areas of need instead of allocating $30M per year on your QB.

The Texans just released J.J. Watt....

By releasing Watt, the Texans save $17.5 million in cash and off their salary cap for 2021. Meanwhile, Watt is now free to sign with any team that will have him and can sign immediately. He does not have to wait until the start of free agency and the new league year in mid-March, giving him a leg up to find his next destination in the NFL. Given his talent, he likely won't be lacking for suitors either.
In 16 games this past season, Watt totaled 52 tackles, 17 quarterback hits, five tacks and two forced fumbles along with an interception. While he may no longer be the generational pass rusher we saw during the early stages of his career when he totaled 20.5 sacks twice in his first four seasons, Watt clearly still has enough talent in the tank to be a force along a club's front seven. Where will that be? We'll soon find out.

It will be interesting to find out who he signs with. Does he want to play with his brothers (Dereck & T.J.) at Pittsburgh, a bonified SuperBowl contender, or closer to home (Green Bay or Chicago)?

"I think, his personality, you feel it," Caserio said, during a conversation with Good Morning Football's Peter Schrager. "You feel his presence when you're in the room with him. There's a confidence. There's a competitiveness. There's an edge, in a good way of what you want. And he has, I would say, it's that balance of confidence and humility. Like you believe in yourself, but you also have to make sure that there are times when you take a step back and you put your ego aside."

NFL Week 15 Takeaways: The Texans Are Building a Powerhouse

Fill-in QB Case Keenum says Houston is one of the best teams in the league and C.J. Stroud has a chance to be an all-time great

The 35-year-old told CBS’s Aditi Kinkhabwala that he sees the Texans as “top to bottom, one of the best teams in the league.” That got my attention, so I got Keenum on the phone and asked him why he said something that would’ve been incomprehensible three months ago.

“So one, I think it starts with C.J. [Stroud],” Keenum says. “Man, I’ll be honest. I think he’s got a chance to be one of the best of all time—I really do. I think [he’s a] generational talent. I’ll say that again. Man, the dude is a dog. Great vision, great pocket awareness, is athletic, can move, can make any throw on the field. Strong throws, touch throws, and he’s a great leader. He’s young, but, I mean, he’s mature for his age, and then the whole quarterback room in general can play. I’m confident in myself. I’m confident in Davis [Mills].

“And then you look at the tight end room, Dalton Schultz is having a career year. I think some young guys in there are stepping up as well. And then defensively, man, it's just, it’s so much young talent over there, and the way DeMeco [Ryans] coaches them, it’s special. It’s really cool to see.”
