I've filled my gas tank once since the second week of March. I was hoping I could make it a year before putting more in, but I'm at 1/4 tank so I don't think I'll make it. Driven to the office 5 times since March 12th.

Finally! I got called back for Monday, but I have no clue what I'm gonna be doing because company policy doesn't allow for my area/classification to have a company laptop and other equipment to work from home. Either way, this is the happiest I've ever been to be going to work.

I’m in the process of retiring after just over 30 years in the Army. A little known benefit of military service is the Skillbridge program. It provides transitioning service members the opportunity to do a corporate internship. I’ve been in Columbus (the good Columbus) for the last two months doing a corporate internship. Wednesday was the last day of work. However I have to stick around for a final evaluation and to negotiate salary, benefits, etc. Between weather, work, and everything else I hadnt had a chance to explore. So here I am sitting in dirty franks eating a chili dog while texting back and forth with my soon-to-be boss as he works with HR to put together an offer. Their initial offer was roughly 30k over what I was going to ask for. This doesn’t even include the starting bonus and relocation package. So all told, one of the best days I’ve ever had at work.

edit: JFC, not sure if it’s just my soon to be employer or if it’s all of corporate America but this pronoun stuff seams to be getting out of hand.

Retired at 56. My time is entirely my own now.

We're moving into a new building at the end of the month, and they were looking for themes to name the conference rooms. They settled on trees. I suggested Aesculus Glabra. About an hour later I got nominated as the male representative to head our department's mother's day committee.

Man, this entire school year has been a shit show with all this pandemic and COVID protocol crap all year long in the schools. Giving parents the option to have their kids online or in-person at my school on any given day has really made this year a nightmare for planning. Just want to get back to doing things we used to and doing my regular job next fall.
