Nothing is quite so hilarious to me as LouisianaLouisianaansas or Alabama puffing out their chests to say, "At least we're not Mississippi."

I lived in 'Bama for 10 years, during which time I worked in all four of these states. Suffice it to say that none of them is as backward as Northerners like to pretend, but none of them is really that different from the others. They're hot, humid, and not very cosmopolitan (and N'Orleans isn't so much cosmopolitan as it is amoral and corrupt).

I can't say that I have spent a significant amount of time in Arkansas, Louisiana or Alabama, but I have lived in Ohio, California, Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi. I can say with 100 % certainty that Mississippi is the most backward place that I have lived.

That would explain the friendly little comment I got in Bama while
Wearing my Buckeye shirt. This was in 07' - I went to pick my cousin
Up who was out of state doing oil field welding.

Long story short - I'm simply going in the gas station to pay for fuel
Because apparently the credit card reader on the pump was broke.
Minding my own business, didn't say a damn thing. In line, behind me I hear..

Him: "From Ahia, huh?? You a buggeye??"

Me: " yes sir"

Him: "ya know we like our n****rs more then you people".

Me: ...."ok".

I'll never forget that. So, yeah.... Tell me again how non "backwards"
Those people are.

If you think trash like that only exists in the south, you haven't been around much.

I'm not saying it exists solely in the dirty dirty... But you can't tell me it isn't more prevalent in that region. I've yet to have anybody on the west coast or in DC come up and say that type of shit to me.

n****rs? I don't get...oh, what a jackass.

Having lived in Louisiana, Georgia, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arizona, Kentucky, and now Colorado, I can say racist assholes of all colors were in each state. Louisiana had the closest thing to "Southern" hospitality (marketing tool). Georgia was not full of friendly Southerners and Kentucky is a cluster fuck of trying to be old South while thinking their cities are like NYC and Chicago.

I would say Oklahoma is worst...might be due to five gangbangers whooping my ass...bad choice of words LOL...in a bar. But I digress.

i'm biased, but I always felt Louisiana was one of the friendlier states down here.
we just seem to be in better moods, and more accepting of visitors than the other southern states i've visited.

of course, I make it a point to wear LSU gear any time I am in Mississippi or Alabama, so that may have something to do with them not being real nice to me.

The one thing I found NOT to do is make fun of LSU football or the fact you call a county a Parrish. I guess that was two things.

Actually I can tell you I found it no worse in the mid south than elsewhere. I found racism to be a factor amongst the uneducated in Ohio, New York, DC and certainly Arky. But not really any worse in Arky. Honestly, I found it to be worse in NY than elsewhere. Racism and stupidity aren't a southern thing - it's gone viral unfortunately.
