Not sure how many of you have family or friends down there but I though I'd give you an update...Just got off the phone with my mom and sis who live in Clermont (sis was in Orlando when the eye hit). Everyone west of Orlando didn't get it that bad, in fact, most still have electricity. International drive where Disney is got the eye of the storm but people there have no idea how bad the damage is..Disney is built to withstand anything so I couldn't say how much damage there could be there. Orlando lost electricity and there is extensive tree and roof damage everywhere but from what I was told there wasn't devastation to the point where human loss would be large.

On a sadder note, the islands between Port Charlotte and Fort Myers are devastated. Reports are as much as 70% of the homes there are destroyed and I really hope no one stayed around. Port Charlotte took the brunt of the devastation and it's expected that a good portion of the town is in ruins. Let's all hope this isn't the case when daylight hits.

LoKyBuckeye I give up. This board is too hard to understand.

Punta Gorda got hit HARD. Sanibel (sp?) Island was devistated. There is also another storm coming. Tropical Storm Earle is followingthe same path Charlie traveled and could hit Florida by this time next week. They are still not sure if it will turn towards Key West after is passes Cuba or how strong it will get.

and there is ALWAYS an idiot who dies....

CNN said that they ordered 60 body bags for that moble home park. That's terrible.

I have a lot of damage at my weekend house in Sanibel. I was over in Puta Gorda at 6:00 am today , it looks like a war zone. There will be 100+ dead from all of this. It was ground zero for the storm.

The storm went from here to Orlando, to Jacksonville. There are a lot of retired folks trailers between here and there. Hopefully they evacuated.

But from Sanibel & Pine Island, the storm did a lot of damage, but no deaths that I have heard of.

I had a feeling it was going to be bad when they started surveying the damage down there. From the stuff I was hearing it made landfall with sustained winds in the 140's. Thats just shy of a Cat 5.

For the NE Florida folks, it never got past Daytona/Palm Coast. If I didn't know what was going on last night I would have thought it was just a regular summertime rain strom.

Got off the phone with some of our employees down in the Kissimmee area and they aren't even going to have power for 2-3 days as of right now. Thats waayy inland to have that kinda damage-that thing must have been a monster.

Charley is hitting me as I type....diminished to Category 1 so the intensity is much less severe.

coastalbuck And this one belongs to the Reds!

It's raining pretty good here, not a terrible amount of wind as of now. I'm about 8 miles inland from Myrtle Beach. Hopefully, I can report in an hour or so that everything is well.

Coastal, you watching WPDE? Hell the reporters are still reporting live on the beach. I just don't want to lose power today...I have Grad school stuff to get done

Well Charley is headed north with minimal damage thus far

Lost power for about 3 hours, 12:30 on. I had to fire up the generator because my beers were getting warm. Of course, the power came back up as soon as I did. Anyway, not too bad here, a ton of rain, a fair amount of wind gusts, but, everything is draining well, ball fields and all. Everyone can practice tomorrow on their fields! A little cleanup to do though!
