Anyone here remember our two-time Heisman winner?!

I'm blown away by how few folks went with Archie Griffin. Two Heisman Trophies and nearly 3 miles rushing and he gets dissed here.

I know...I know... it's his size. He's too small for the modern game, right? Wrong! If Arch is too small, then Marshall Faulk is too small. And Barry Sanders.

Orlando Pace over Archie Griffin... by a landslide? Puh-leeeze!

Mega,

No one is dissing Archie. However, most people are more comfortable with our backs than our line, so looking at the question asked in the thread, many of us feel we would rather have line help (Pace, or Parker, or Hicks) than another back. If we sucked defensively, you'd get more votes for Tatum, Stillwagon, or Spielman, probably.

Okay, Lion. I accept your reasoning and will calm down.

But I remember #45 with such affection for the thrills he brought to Ohio State football that I feel personally wounded when he doesn't get his props. Orlando Pace was the pancake king and made us all proud, but nobody brought glory to the program the way Arch did. I doubt anybody ever will.

Question: Does anyone think Archie or the other older players could beat today's gym rats and athletic freaks? I think you'd have to pick a current player like Pace or George. No offense to Archie or whoever else as they were complete studs in their time, but you have to take the bigger, faster players of today. Like I'd take Bonds over Ruth every single time because I don't think Ruth could hit a 100mph fastball very well .

I find it hard to believe you don't have Art Schlichter or Cris Carter listed.

I hope you notice the last choice. I could have added Joey Galloway, Robert Smith, Art, Carter, Boston, Germaine, Korey Stringer, Clarett, Cousineau, just to name a few.

Who do you suggest is on the list that doesn't belong? I suspect if had listed 100 players there would have been room for a few more.

Archie

No argument- Pace & George are better athletes but Tressel and the Buckeyes are just as much about heart and tradition and right now 2 Heismans and Archie who is scarlet and grey through and through is what we need most.
