I adore offensive lineman who... just before the ball is snapped... look over to their DL counterpart and say "ya know, you should just sit your ass down today cuz you're gonna be miserable ALL FRIGGIN DAY LONG"

i don't remember how i voted last year. probably eddie. but if we are talking this season. from everything i have seen thus far... my list would go a little like this:

1. joe germaine
2. eddie george (im to young to remember archie)
3. antwon winfield
4. orlando pace
5. andy katzenmoyer (the big kat, hawk, and carp... that would just be wrong!)

i guess last year, when this topic first came up, i voted Eddie... even before i saw the choices this time around, my initial thought was Eddie...

but then i decided that Orlando Pace was the choice that i really wanted... i mean, Eddie was great but PEPE PEARSON rushed for 1400+ yards behind Pace...

give me Pace any day of the week... he'd be blocking guys 40 yards downfield...

id go with cris carter....a triple threat of TGJ, Holmes, and CC would be insane
Don't forget about Gonzo, man. There's just to much talent.:)

I had to pick Orlando. We already have a great triple threat at receiver in TGII, SH, and Gonzo, if we had Pace think about how much longer Smith could sit back and scan the defence before he decided to either throw the ball with his rocket of an arm and run the ball with his quick feet. Plus, as already mentioned many backs could run for big yardage behind Mr. Pace, and I don't think Pittman, Haw, or Mo Wells would be any different.

not sure on the order, but agreed on the 5 for my time frame. maurice clarett is pushing katzenmoyer on my list though.

Look, Chic was a great one... but how would he do against today's players? Think perhaps the game has evolved some in the last several decades? How about physical traiing methods?

Chic would probably be a bit out of his depth under these circumstances.
Look were comparing apples to oranges here anyway. It all boils down to THE BIGGEST IMPACT PLAYER. If you had an impact player come to tOSU today that had the impact of a Chic Your talking National Championship.

I mean this is like saying what General in Military History would you like to be conducting the war in Iraq today? You naturally look at the impact they had at the time of their greatness with what was at their disposal.

I picked Tatum narrowly over Pace. I think Tatum would provide the missing link to this year's defense...put him at boundary, and the first time he puts a WR out of the game, they won't throw that way, and with Youboty locking down the other side, we're set.

Ahh, so you were just making up your own poll question. Gotcha.

I'm merely saying that a player who made an impact in the past, may not do so today. Especially if you go back as far as Chic Harley.

By the way... your analogy really just points out the weakness of your argument. To conduct modern warfare, you must be conversant with modern tactics and equipment. You're saying that we could pull Alexander out of the past, put him in charge of our troops, and tell him to go kick ass... when in reality, his 2nd in command would have to do it, 'cause ol Alex would be too damn shell shocked to know what the hell's going on.

Edit: Thought about it some more. In the context you're using, yes, Chic would be ideal... I just can't totally divorce myself from reality (which is a pretty severe deficiency when considering that the thread is based in anything but reality)
