I heard an interesting antidote on NPR today. They were interviewing an illegal from El Salvador who is a "day laborer", one of those guys you pick up in the parking lot at home depot to do landscaping. Anyways, they were saying a year or so ago that the day laborers could be picky about which jobs they took, now many have been out of work for months. The guy being interviewed said that he was going home as soon as he got enough money for a plane ticket, because if he was going to be broke anyways he might as well be with his family. Makes me wonder how many others will be heading out of the country due to lack of work.

What about a Constitutional Amendment to say that only children of immigrants who are here legally (even if on a green card) are entitled to citizenship? The idea of aliens coming to the US illegally only to drop a new citizen in the country was not on the Founder's minds at the time. As our battle over illegal immigration and life boat resource issues will only intensify, such an amendment would remove a huge logistical legal problem of illegal parents and legal citizen kids.

You can make it even more simple than that. A child born in the United States takes on the citizenship of his mother at the time of his birth.

Woof, I have no problem with kids born in the US being citizens. Worked for 200 years. But now you can bop over for the day and have a kid, and then if you boot the illegal mom you effectively boot the tadpole citizen too. Not good.
  9. better than booting the mom and leaving the tadpole?

i also find it interesting that most people tend to forget how new the born in the us=citizen law is...

the average is just over 27K a pop. so he saved the tax payers a little over 432 million per year. i can see why the guy would have a following. i can also see why certain politicians would like to see his downfall. i suspect he's made it a tad harder for a few of em to pad their pockets. that son of a bitch.

If the mother is here legally and is married to a citizen, why would their child not be entitled to citizenship?
