Illegal Immigration (official)

Ttown WTH is an Illini? Dead goose?

No Brainer. The Mexican gov't is against deporting illegals back to Mexico.
Why would they want to add 15 million people back onto their welfare roles. And I'm sure they want back all the 100,000's of criminals (probably) we have in our jails.
If we shipped them all back the Mexican gov't would probably fold because of the loss of money the illegals are sending back home now.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaa! Gov. Brewer of Ariz has signed the controversial immigration bill.
It's about time someone had some backbone about enforcing immigration laws.

The only worthwhile thing she said today amounted to this: she has no ability to enforce Federal Law, because that is the Federal Government's responsibility. The rest of her presser was puffery to bolster her credentials in the face of several Republican primary challengers. This is a bad bill responding to a piss-poor lack of realistic action by Congress & the Feds to address immigration.

Perhaps, (seeking silver lining), this piece of crap legislation will force the Feds and Congress' hands to actually take up practical immigration reform.

Obama is already using this legislation as motivation to do it; he said something to the effect of, "if we don't enact reform, it will lead other actors to attempt misguided efforts...", clearly in reference to AZ's reform. I forget where I saw that, though.

However, I'm not sure it will be done this year--just too much on the table.

I know the bill will probably get ruled unconstitutional but what happens if it forces the Gov't to do something and they just wave the magic "screw em" wand and declare all the illegals as citizens in an election year.
    Now that could get interesting.

    Wouldn't surprise me one bit.

bull[Mark May] - a deliberate statement promoting an idea or a piece of information that attacks another's premise as being deliberately false, yet it itself provides no information or facts to back up its claim; alt.: anything having to do with Michigan

Jake - have you ever been to the Big Apple? Take away the illegals from dozens of countries that work there and tell me it will have no impact. Tell me it will not impact the small dairy farms. Tell me that suburban kids and urban poor are going to sign up to pick the vegetable and citrus crops through out the country. Disappear all of the day workers hanging around the Home Depos and tell me that you will get your new garage dry walled for the same price - if at all - unless you do it yourself.

Jake, there have been numerous articles and studies about the impact of illegal aliens on our economy. The Mayor of New York's position is what I was referencing. If you were not aware of any of these studies I will provide them. If you have countervailing studies, I would love to see them. So rather than just calling me a liar, please advise what information you possess that forms the basis of your opinion.

bull[Mark May]....any statement by Gator purporting that economic impact alleviates the requirement for entry or citizenship.
In other words they are still illegal and there is no reason you can use that can changes that.
And if by chance that should cause some economic hardship then we can overcome that easily.
btw a statement by the Mayor of NY or any other politician to that same effect is also bull[Mark May].

Since you are obviously in the "make them all legal" camp is there some limit to which you would ever say enough is enough? or should we just issue citizenship papers to everyone who wants to cross our borders?

Is there some limit to the people who you would deny access to our money and resources?

C'mon - that's way out of bounds in tenor and on fact.

Gator suggests that shipping out all undocumented workers would have negative economic repercussions. He isn't saying, nor purporting that this alleviates requirements for entry or citizenship.

Not even passing a law to address the issue? Not even then?
If it was so easy to overcome then such a facile choice would have been made long, long ago.

A NY Mayor who has a unique perspective on the Republican side, that of stating the true and obvious. But, if that kind of thing is deemed bull[Mark May] ...

I'd start by asking the Tea Party elder folk and the more rabid amongst the GOP to sign off on this pledge: if they want taxes cut and spending cut then they are also willing to forgo their Social Security and Medicare on principal. Not about immigration I know, but that is where I'd start.
