Game Thread Illinois 28, Ohio State 21 (final)

yeah that call was a screw up....but none the less we lost because we cant stop the spread offense..Our backfield was open all day.

i love ohio state, but if we played oregon or even florida again last night it would have been another embarassment.

It's not the spread offense. Purdue and other Big 10 teams run the spread (even we do). Its the Read Option that teams like Illi, Florida and sometimes Texas ran against us and Tressel and company have not figured out. Read Option is Ohio States #1 weakness.

Oh, and its the same thing that Oregon runs and is the same thing that killed Michigan.

Dispatch: Big Ten says refs dropped the ball

Big Ten says refs dropped the ball

Apparent fumble vs. Illinois last year needed TV review

Wednesday, July 30, 2008 3:16 AM
By Ken Gordon

Big Ten officials said last week that a controversial noncall on a fumble by Illinois against Ohio State last season should have been reviewed, and it appears the referee in charge of that crew likely will not be working conference games this fall.

Early in a game Nov. 10 in Ohio Stadium, Illini running back Daniel Dufrene fumbled at the end of an 80-yard run, at the Ohio State 3-yard line. The ball squirted into the end zone, and it might have been recovered by the Buckeyes.

Side judge Joe Duncan, though, allowed Illinois to keep possession, marking the ball out of bounds.

Ohio State football: Big Ten says oops on Illinois fumble

by Doug Lesmerises Wednesday July 30, 2008, 1:55 PM

Officially, the Big Ten thought the refs missed a chance to review a potential fumble in the first quarter of the Ohio State-Illinois game last year, the Columbus Dispatch reported today.

That potential fumble came at the end of an 80-yard run by Daniel Dufrene, which set up a touchdown that put Ohio State in the insurmoutable hole of ... being tied 7-7. And the Buckeyes went back ahead 14-7 on their next possession.
In other officiating news, the Big Ten last week provided some examples of plays, in the form of a video presentaion, that will be points of emphasis this year.
They are cracking down on celebrations, so let's just say that everyone should really stick to the idea of handing the football to the officials to avoid any chance of a penalty. All high-stepping is now punishable, too.
Horse collar tackles are now a personal foul if players are yanked to th

8 months too late..... But Having lost the NC game kinda takes the edge off of it.

I don't think it was the call as much as the fact that OSU gave Daniel Dufrene 25% of his season production on one play.

I watch a lot of college football and I sit through 10 minute instant replays. I just thought it was amazing they were so sure it wasn't a fumble. But then again, that wasn't a big deal compared to the pick plays and holding by Illinois.

Yet, I'm glad we didn't have to face Oregon (with Dennis Dixon).

I remember in 2002 CK scored an early TD that was called back and ruled OB at the 1. Replay showed he clearly scored.

Same f'ing deal, it kept them in it early and made a game of it.

Missed tackles are a bitch aren't they??

Or Ohio State's inability to punch it in when they had a chance on offense......

Ummmm ok......Ohio State wouldn't have faced Dixon either way...if he remains uninjured, Oregon doesn't lose....as it was he was injured and Oregon faded....

tOSU ended up #1 in the BCS. If Oregon had ended up 11-1, how would they have not joined tOSU in the top 2 of the BCS? Regardless of which one was #1, they both would have been ranked ahead of 'no losses in regulation' LSU, who got moved in to the #2 spot whrn the voters didn't have another 1-loss BCS Conference team with credibility (Kansas was the only other choice).
