Game Thread Illinois 28, Ohio State 21 (final)

On the topic of the game, gotta say, I hope this game results creates a renewal in the rivalry. Especially with the classless act at the end of the game. But hey what can I say, Should we expect more from the preseason winners of the Fulmer Cup.
Stay Classy Champaign.

You know, I was thinking about something last night. National championships are a rare thing. Your average college football fan will not get to celebrate a championship in their lifetime. Illinois fans are celebrating and beating their chests over a regular season win over the Buckeyes. Beating us once or twice a decade is about as exciting a it gets for them. So who should really be hanging their heads this morning? Will this loss matter when we are watching silver and grey confetti falling around another crystal football in the next few years? When that day comes will we be thinking about yesterday? They will think about it in Champaign, and know deep down that they will never taste anything like it. They are forced to eat the crumbs from the table in the form of an occasional upset. So hang your head if you want, I think I will throw in my Fiesta Bowl DVD from 2002 and look forward to beating Scum in 6 days 11 hours.

Every day is a great day to be a Buckeye.

It's Michigan week, it's Veterans Day, and the NFL is on.

We can't do anything about this loss, people saying they didn't play well or trashing us in the media doesn't change anything. Hopefully, it will light a fire under the Bucks and lead them to dominate scUM next week, and move on to prove ourselves against a "real conference" opponent in the Pac10. We have another year til we get the Zooker again, and trust me, Tressel will have that game circled on the calendar. The storm was setup, people were finally giving us some respect, people were asking why Boeckman wasn't being considered for the Heisman, people said "we might just be the team to beat" and Sporting News actually gave us some props saying we might just be the best team in the nation. So, we start believing it, looking at a team who's never beaten a #1 team on the road and all the other media hype that comes along with playing #1 and being #1, and the clouds formed for a perfect storm. Weather or not, last year the Illini did a pretty good job containing us, we jumped out quick but Zook has seem something in Tressels offense and it's worked.

So take it for what it's worth, you can call it a Zook mastery of his team, or Tressel's team playing badly, it's not going to change the outcome. These kids came here to play, they aren't getting paid, they are doing what they do for the pride of the scarlet and grey. No one on that field wanted to lose yesterday. If we beat M*ch*gan next week, go onto the rose bowl, we'll all look back at a successful season, sure, it may not be a national champioship, but believe it or not, we aren't entitled to that every year. We got close, but at the beginning of the season our goal was to win the Big10 and maybe, just maybe, go back to the Rose Bowl for the first time in 10 years.

So, my advice, put this behind you and get ready for next week. I know I am going to hear crap at work, I know everyone wanted us to lose for the past 5 weeks, but tomorrow I will walk into work with my tOSU sweatshirt on and be ready to kill the scUM in Maize and Blue, my advice to you would be to do the same.

well here is my frame by frame account of the scrum...it really wasn't that bad..

1. illinois agressed the situation coming to the block O
2. osu made a line to stop them from coming any further
3. #48 from Illinois rams jenkins head first in his chest
4. jenkins completely disappears from the screen going to the ground
5. at this time robiskie uses both hands to push the illinois player standing over jenkins out of the way and tries to help get jenkins off the ground
6. ROBISKIE DOESN'T THROW A PUNCH. he uses an open hand to move the illinois guy out of the way by pushing the guys helmet
7. jenkins is pulled up and swings twice with an open palm..he comes across #96 facemask with an open hand...not a punch
8. grant and freeman move in and pull people away
9. the end...it is very minor folks
10. coleman was not involved..much like the game

Perspective. We were picked to finish 3rd or 4th in the conference, yet we have a great opportunity to win an outright Big Ten championship, go to the Rose Bowl and end up in the top 3 or 4 in the final polls.

BTW, question about the post-game scuffle. I wasn't paying too much attention at that point. The ESPN highlights showed it, and it didn't look too serious--just some mass shoving and pushing. None of their commentary, written or spoken, even mentioned it. What happened? The Miami of Ohio board is trying to make it sound like the second coming of the Miami-FIU brawl a couple of years ago.

It's raining in Westerville today. God is crying because His favorite team, The Buckeyes lost. :(

My favorite Deep Thoughts on SNL: If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is, "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is, "Probably because of something you did."

OK, on to scUM!!!!! :oh:
