Illinois Series @ Champaign, IL

6-5 winner!

Where would we be without Seth Kinker? Dude is mustard. Another three inning save but I believe he could throw again Sunday because his pitch count was low...maybe 25 pitches.

Great atmosphere in Champaign...3,000+ on Star Wars night and they were really into it. We couldn’t get a sellout at BDS if the Yankees were in town! Anyway, great and much needed win. Beating RPI group 1 teams on the road is how you make the postseason. I want to believe

Buckeyes beat Illinois 10-5 on Sunday to take the 3 game series for the first time since 2009.

GAME SUMMARY
  • Ohio State took advantage of some miscues by the best fielding team in the conference in the second, scoring five times on two hits and two Illinois errors. The bases were loaded after a walk to Pohl, a throwing error and fielding error. Andrew Fishel walked to allow Pohl to score the first run. A single through the left side by Barnwell made it 2-0. West walked to push Tyler Cowles Foppe then ripped a double to the gap in right center to plate two more runs. In all, four of the five runs went in the box score as unearned.
  • Illinois got on the board in the bottom of the third on a lead-off homer by Jeff Korte.
  • The Buckeyes got back to a five-run lead in the fourth with a run on one hit and a third Illini error. Foppe pushed home West on a sac fly to right.
  • Right-handed reliever Austin Woodby relieved Ohio State starter Adam Niemeyer with the bases loaded and one down in the bottom of the fifth. He gave up one run on a walk, but recorded the final two outs to hold on to a four-run lead. Niemeyer threw 4.1 innings and gave up two runs on four hits with three strikeouts and one walk in a no decision. Woodby threw 1.2 innings and gave up one run on three hits, one walk and one strikeout. He improves to 2-0 on the year.
  • The teams exchanged runs in the sixth to put the score at 7-3. Foppe singled through the left side against Illinois closer Joey Gerber for his fourth RBI of the game. Bren Spillane hit his 18th homer of the year in the bottom half off Woodby.
  • West came up huge in the top of the seventh with a two-out, bases-clearing double off Gerber to make it a seven-run game.
  • The Illini scored two in the bottom of the seventh on a single by Troike and a ground ball
  • double play vs. right-handed reliever Seth Kinker. He kept the Illini off the board for the final two innings to earn his 11th save. He threw three innings and gave up two runs on two hits.

Baseball: OSU wins series over Illinois, claims 30th win of year
The Buckeyes are one of the surprise teams in the Big Ten this season
The Ohio State baseball team won a pivotal three-game series at Illinois this weekend.

The Buckeyes (30-15, 11-7) prevailed in two contests against the Fighting Illini (27-16, 11-7), including a 10-5 victory in the rubber game on Sunday.

Ohio State won the first game of the series on Friday 6-5, due in large part to a three-inning save from standout senior closer Seth Kinker.

Illinois game back on Saturday and beat OSU to the tune of 11-3.

But the Buckeyes jumped on the Illini on Sunday and never looked back. Ohio State led by as much as seven at one point (10-3 in the seventh).

Kinker once again pitched the final three innings of the win.

Ohio State's offensive attack was led by junior Kobie Foppe and sophomore Noah West who each collected two hits and four RBIs. Junior catcher Jacob Barnwell added two hits and a run knocked in for OSU.

The Buckeyes are now tied for fourth place in the Big Ten with their aforementioned 11-7 mark. Minnesota and Michigan are both 13-3 in conference play, while Purdue checks in at 12-4.

Ohio State has its final five home games of the season this week. The Buckeyes will host Campbell on Tuesday and Wednesday, and will begin a three-game series with Purdue on Friday in Columbus.

OSU will end the regular season with a game at Cincinnati on May 15, and then a three-game series at Michigan State beginning May 17.
