Me, I'd rather let evolution do it's job and cull the weak from the herd than use force against another free human being.

Reminds me of Louis CK and kids with nut allergies.

That being said, I got an MMR booster within the past two years. My choice to make though. Honestly not sure on MMR, maybe it was a tetanus shot or the like. I understand the science and have no issue with it. My issue lies with not allowing choice and the use of force.

It's still your choice to make, just don't bring your stupid choice (not yours personally, "your" in general) around me or my kids. You're the one being the hypocrite if you think that your personal choice should be allowed to affect other people's health, because then they don't have the choice, you are making it for them by choosing not to be vaccinated and then coughing on them. So you (anyone) can decide not to be vaccinated...but you can damn sure restrict where the people who make those choices go and who they are around to protect everyone else who are making other (better) choices. Herd immunity is a real thing...people can't just believe the science they want to fit into their personal narrative.

I like how idiots not getting their kids proper medical care has turned into a "What if we allowed cops to....." thread....

I don't care if the kids want a shot or not. If I think, in my capacity as their parent and guardian, that they need a shot to maintain a healthy lifestyle and not be a Typhoid Mary to the kids around them, then they are probably going to get the vaccination.

BTW I didn't get my kids the flu shot this year for the first time in a while. My son and daughter are both very healthy, and the flu shot wasn't going to stop that damned stomach virus that's going around anyway.. Both have had colds, but only me and the wife actually ended up getting the flu, and we both had free flu shots via work. Figures, right?

Yea I see no issue with not allowing the unvaccinated kids into schools or the YMCA or little league or the public pool or whatever any property owner / administrator feels. It is their property to do with as they wish.

I believe children are the property of parents until a certain age and you can choose to vaccinate them against their will. The state can't though. Just like the state can't choose to jam stuff up my ass for 12 hours on a whim.

I should be allowed to drive while totally wasted. Personal liberty.

Because you're decision to not immunize could literally kill someone. There are people with conditions that leave them vulnerable to the diseases immunization prevents.

It shouldn't be your choice to allow polio to make a comeback. Especially considering that antibiotics ain't doing the trick like they used to.

As a Rotarian, we have had an emphasis around the world to eradicate polio. We are almost there and it would be ridiculous to allow it to make a comeback....

Basic property rights issue.

Do you own yourself or are you a slave to the government?

If a woman has the choice to have an abortion or not, why wouldn't individuals have the choice what they get shot up with?

You need to be consistent here or realize you are a hypocrite.

I wasn't aware abortions were a deadly, airborne pathogen. Fuck me, I've been getting it wrong this whole time.

If you intend on being consistent in your argument, please use a better example.

Vaccinations are a matter of public health. Abortions are a matter of personal opinion, religious belief and preference.

Saying that everyone must have the same position with one relative to the other in order to be "consistent" is just plain wrong.

So many ill-conceived comparisons, so little time

Stellar argument, because clearly they won't be infecting kids, the elderly, the immune deficient or just Joe Blow who beat the odds to contract measles, polio or other defeated diseases, all because some self-absorbed loon subscribes to ridiculousness on the internets.

But if an individual is vaccinated, what concern is it of theirs whether or not I am?
Because not everyone can be vaccinated nor is it a guarantee to avoid it.
What if the police wanted this authority to medically rape you with non consensual colonoscopies multiple times to search for drugs?

New Mexico Man Given Forced Colonoscopy by Cops Wins $1.6 Million Settlement
Police and doctors allegedly committed 'medical anal rape, numerous times over a 12-hour period.'

You're doing a spectactular taos impersonation.

I don't really have a point here, just getting philosophical on my long holiday weekend. Off today as well doing vehicle repairs (sagging door on the truck).

So the argument in favor of vaccinations is based on a public need to protect those that can't protect themselves. Admirable.

Not sure what right that gives anyone to my body though honestly.

So it sounds like I need vaccinated in order to reduce the risk for those that can't be vaccinated for whatever reason. The needs of those few outweigh the individual desires of the remaining 300 million or so Americans. Not sure I buy that, but OK.

What about Mexicans or those sneaky Canadians? Do we need to extend our laws to those nations as well to protect our weak? Lock down the borders or at least make visitors show proof of vaccination?

Assuming I grant you all the other points, I still need to see some type of payback on this to justify the investment in this procedure. We may print money out of thin air, but I still like to pretend it doesn't grow on trees.

What is the net difference in death (deaths prevented offset by deaths caused if any) and the total cost of the vaccine as well as the labor costs to install the vaccine? We would also need to arrive at a dollar figure for one human life. I'd argue to not assign a base value to all, but to assign individual values. The elderly and the sick or the immune deficient lives would not be worth as much as an infant's life I presume.
