We live in NC fwiw.
My children were vaccinated prior to entering public school. My wife has been a stay-at-home mother since their births. Thus, we're at a lower exposure rate than most other children nowadays. Anyway, since the OP, things have changed. Needn't go into it [sarcasm]other than to satisfy @BuckeyeNation27 's thirst for my blood as a horrible human being.[/sarcasm]

It's just math / statistics / actuarial calculation... how many immunized relative to how many not immunized, the likelihood of contact between a carrier and somebody whose not vaccinated multiplied by the likelihood that that contact (and successive contacts) brings about a successful transmission of the virus.

Or thereabouts...

Not so different from flu outbreaks. Just a different (and more common form) of a viral infection.
