Well, just skimming this site, it looks like Oregon only grants exception for medical or religious reasons...not philosophical.

I agree, looks like you might need to move a bit north to Washington for your philosophical views to be considered in the opt out program...

When I have a bit more time I will look at this closer... for now, I'm off to play in the traffic and head to work...

Actually, I think that if a student's parents choose to not vaccinate and then send their children to public school, the other parents of children in their class(es) should be informed that a potential risk will sitting next to their children every day.

That sounds logical, but probably falls under that medical privacy act. Good point though.

The school can't inform you which kid isn't vaccinated. But they could send out a letter to every student in the class that says that "a child" in the class has not been vaccinated and could pose a risk. This is what they do when a child gets strep throat or head lice, etc. Generic warning, but no specific child info.

as long as majority of people are willing to take the risk of vaccinating their own children then your child(ren) will most likely remain safe... I don't feel like the responsiblity of keeping my child safe should fall at the expense of others though.

Whereas, I feel that vaccinated children MAY be putting my child at risk by exposing her/him to a disease that they MAY have not come in contact with otherwise.

I have read testimonies from people who write about the elderly coming in contact with a freshly vaccinated child and the elderly person (who's immune system is fragile due to age) has contracted the disease.

Like I said, I hadn't looked into this yet. But I'm sure I could swing the "religious" exemption, if I had to.

Let me know what schools your kids go to, providing they go to school and are not homeschooled, so I'll know to not take my un vaccinated infant near your child. Thanks

I have a five-year-old who has not been vaccinated, and she IS being homeschooled.

I have a two-month-old who has not been vaccinated, and you know what...

He hasn't contracted a disease from my five-year-old, from us, from the neighbors kids, from the Wal-mart check out stand, or anyone else that he's come in contact with. Can you believe it?!!! It's outrageous.

I find this sentiment ridiculous and fallacious. There is ABSOLUTELY no validation to the mythical concept that a perfectly healthy human who has NOT been vaccinated is any more of a risk to other children than one who HAS BEEN vaccinated.

It might be wise to substantiate your arrogant, judgmental opinion before you attempt to label me or my children as medically inferior.

It might be wise to evaluate who is really being arrogant and judgmental here -- the people who accept the advisories of the medical and public health professional community, or the person who says, "I refuse to do what you insist upon, because I know better." Particularly considering the health implications for the kids.

I really hope the smiley means this is not a serious statement.

While the overt appearance was for humor, the underlying sentiment is completely serious. IF my children are going to attend a public school at any point in their life; THEN I intend on taking whatever steps necessary so that they ARE NOT vaccinated. Whether this mean that I need to go to a particular medical professional or otherwise, I will take it to the point that I need to.

Your repeated presentation of your POV WITHOUT regard for the points that I have stated have left me with no other choice but to end the dialogue with you on this particular topic. G'day.

So you're not worried about the example you'd be setting for your children if you had to end up lying about your religious beliefs to get your way?

Great attitude...Damn everybody else, and what ever other thinbgs prove. I'm going to do what I want.

I really feel sorry for your kids. This type of attitude is exactly the reason you probally shouldn't be home schooling your kids, because instead of hearing anytype of information they disagree with they are going to be taught to just stick their fingers in their ears and ignore everyone.

You are correct, sir: I am utterly WITHOUT REGARD for your points, given that they are fundamentally dangerous, ill-considered, and abusive to your children. I have no wish to engage in "dialogue" with you. I only hope someone has enough clout to get your kids immunized, for their own good and for the safety of their community.

[sarcasm]Thanks for taking the time to read everything I've written in this thread, because you've summed up my position wonderfully.[/sarcasm]

Here's a tip: next time you decide to dog somebody out, it might be worth your while to make sure that you read and understand EXACTLY what said person has been presenting.

I've stated repeatedly that I have researched my position. I have weighed the positives and negatives of vaccinations, and found that I cannot with clear conscience expose my children to the dangers. Furthermore, I have stated clearly that I don't place any judgment on those who choose otherwise.

Fuck.
Off.

When you become the parent of one of my children or even a person that is a part of their life; THEN YOU CAN MAKE SUCH A DEROGATORY COMMENT.

Touche. I'll sum up my opinion of how you'll raise your children in one word: sheep. Whereas, my children will be raised to use more than just the brain stem.

Lunacy at it's pinnacle. I find it hilarious that an internet non-entity can perceive my family unit so well. Congratulations on living up to your handle, dipshit.
