Where in the heck do these kids come from?

I won't lie... this young guy needs some work. He's really slow getting started.

You cant teach size though and if we can get him here and trim him down 50-60 pounds maybe we have a different animal.

That behemoth also went to IMG and went against d1 level competition daily. Dawand isn't in the same vein other than size.

Other than this kids offer list, he's not much more than a Plan B prospect, IMO. Not trying to bash, just be honest. Most of his top schools cooled off, I'm sure due to his size and having next to no technique. He's going to need at least 2yrs to be even 2 deep ready at minimum. Not only does he need to shed some weight, but also actually learn OL technique, as he is clearly over powering kids who are probably close to 100 lighter than. He will definitely be a (LARGE) mold of clay that needs to be shaped into an actual competent D1 OL. He comes from a top IN HS(though that doesn't say a lot) so he's faced some D1 talent, but relies a lot on his size and that won't be able to win in a lot of instances in college. If he came to OSU, an upperclassman like Cornel or Cooper would fly right by him, and Young would put so many moves on him that he's break his ankles. He seems like a nice plan to bolster depth and in the case Nester bolts.

To his credit, Dawand Jones is on his HS basketball team and just dropped 26 points & 13 rebounds in a 5 point road win. He gets up and down the court and displays athleticism. He had two dunks also. He shows that he loves to compete, loves to play, loves his teammates and loves to win. From watching him, he is a good natured young guy, upbeat and positive. After the game, he shook hands with the other team in good sportsmanship. He just seems like he has alot of spirit and drive in football & basketball. Of course, football is his future. He definitely would have to be a right tackle or guard at the college level. He has Orlando Pace size & girth and an obvious freshman redshirt. Several high P5 schools have offered him. He is a take based on his athleticism and qualities he possesses.

Yes, but OSU is a national brand, and shouldn't just have to rely on state talent. This was a year where the staff could've gotten some local talent, but you don't forsake that for a chance to get a kid like Nester or Wright in this class as well. I'm all for going after the best, and Idc where you're from. I don't think OH kids have special powers, I think OSU kids have special powers. We're going to run into this problem yearly, because rightfully so, the staff is going to pursue the best, and sometimes those kids reside in OH, and many times they do not, which will leave us scrambling for Plan Bs to fill the class, there's nothing wrong with that

I agree with that... but if you aren't going to land the best you've got to circle back and be able to get the Ohio kids.

I'd like to see us take more Ohio kids though IMO. For a different reason than maybe most here think.

First it will take away from scUM, Sparty and PED. Second it will allow us to get some for sure numbers in the class and will allow our staffs to really focus on 5-8 out of state kids we really want. Lastly we don't have to circle back and take kids that maybe are reaches when we do miss out of state.

I love this kids size but he's going to have to lose 50 pounds if he wants to play our style of offense. Then again he's for sure not playing the first season so give this young man 2 years and I know he can get there.

How are you coming to the conclusion top schools are backing off?
He has picked up recent offers from Texas, FSU, PSU.
Was recently named lineman of the year in Indiana.
The fact that his primary sport was hoops is intriguing.
To me it indicates he has good feet and a ton of untapped potential on the gridiron when it becomes his focus.
I’d be excited to procure him, it’s not like we have 5 tackle commits in this class.
The reward outweighs the risk.
