In-State Players to Watch

More on Munford:
No offensive lineman made a bigger impression than Thayer Munford from Cincinnati who is down 40 pounds and looked good moving around at around 320 pounds. Munford said no school is recruiting him harder than Pittsburgh. The 247Sports Composite ranks Munford as the No. 22 player in Ohio.

Saw the same thing AuTX. There isn't really a bruiser between-the-tackles short-yardage type TB on the roster. Being short on TBs, in-general, I wonder if they'd take a risk on Ellison late here. I think they may take more than 3 more now(still lots of candidates for trimming off the returning roster) and the TB spot is mighty thin.

With losing Samuel and Noah Brown to the NFL, and Lyndsey unexpectedly de-committing, I wonder also if they might re-think looking at Javonte Richardson(KY commit), Lynn Bowden(hearing no contact and he's about to pick KY) and Danny Davis a bit at WR. Whereas some thought Harris was out a few months back, they now seem to have another slot open at WR late here.

Urban might add 2-3 late OH kids to the class. Munford, Ellison, and a WR? That would be interesting given it didn't look anywhere near possible 2 months ago.

saw some rumblings we might be kicking the tires here....
I mentioned in the 2017 Recruiting Thread that Ellison has been tweeting out some subliminal love towards OSU. I think he's reciprocating the acknowledgement...

I think Weber is a good between the tackles and short yardage RB...

As far as WR, Richardson is out, as Richardson has no true position and honestly Harris is a better version of him anyway. Bowden has shut down his recruitment and is going to UK, and Davis will most likely join him. None of them are seen as possiblities(at least publicly). Munford may even be a long shot. I could see the staff staying put at 2 WRs unless the right WR becomes available.

Looking at some players that committed elsewhere from in-state (I'll do offense today and defense tomorrow):

QB - Sean Clifford (Penn State), Danny Clark (Kentucky), Andrew Marty (Northwestern)

Those are the big time players. Marty has tremendous upside after missing his junior year and might have the highest ceiling of the group. Toledo got a good looking player in Caleb Martin from Fort Recovery. Dominique Robinson from Canton McKinley is headed to Miami, but probably as a TE. Kent State landed two solid in-state QBs in Dustin Crum from Grafton-Midview and Will Phillis from Hlliard Bradley.

RB - Bryant Koback (Kentucky), DeCavilon Reese (Marshall), Michael Warren (UC), Morgan Ellison (Indiana), Ra'Von Bonner (Illinois), Todd Sibley (Pitt), Weston Bridges (MSU)

Bridges is very athletic and could be a slot back whereas Koback, Bonner and Sibley are good "between the tackle" guys who lack a little burst. Ellison is the total package and could be a really good one at Indiana. Warren was probably under recruited. Eastern Kentucky is getting a steal in Alonzo Booth from DeSales. Marshall got another good North/South guy in Brenden Knox.

WR/TE - Caleb Stoneburner (Boston College), Danny Davis (Wisconsin), Trent Cloud (UC), JaVonte' Richardson , Matt Dotson (Michigan State), Charles Reeves (Pitt), Trey Pugh (Northwestern), Nate Weinman (Wyoming)

Obviously the big question will be what do Dotson, Davis and Richardson do at the next level. Richardson still might end up on defense, the reverse of Brendon White. Toledo got two good possession guys in Bryce Mitchell from Bowsher and Nick Kovacs from Springboro and they also got a speedy slot in Dakari Carter from Streetsboro. Interested to see where Joe Coopers' son from Reynoldsburg ended up at. Bowling Green got a nice player in Matt Wilcox from Wayne. Reeves is a guy who could very good at the next level. Bowling Green getting a good TE in Travis Koontz from Boardman.

OL - Carson Van Lynn (Pitt), Chris Glaser (UVA), Howard Watkins (Illinois), Jeff Nogaj (Iowa State), Joel Honigford (Michigan), Matt Bockhorst (Clemson), Matt Carrick (Michigan State), Matt Sichterman (Nebraska), Mike Miranda (PSU), Sam Gerak (Northwestern)

OL is undoubtedly the toughest position to project but I firmly believe that there is enough OSU-level talent at OL in-state every year. You could probably build a pretty decent OL with Myers, Honigford, Munford, Van Lynn and Miranda. UC landed two talented players in Cody Lamb from Miamisburg and Vince McConnell from Massillon...McConnell has a very high ceiling in my opinion. Bowling Green also got a pair of possible bookend tackles from Columbus in Derek Downs from Westerville North and Sam Neverov from Dublin Jerome.
