Indiana's Devin Davis hit by teammate's car, in serious condition

Indiana sophomore forward Devin Davis was in a Bloomington, Ind., hospital and listed in serious condition early Saturday after being struck by a car driven by a freshman teammate.

In a release, the school said Davis was injured following a car accident with a teammate, Emmitt Holt. Davis was on foot, Holt was driving. The nature of the accident has not been disclosed, but the release said Holt, a 17-year-old freshman, had a blood alcohol content level of 0.025.

Here is the release:

Early this morning, an accident occurred on the Indiana University campus involving two of the school's basketball players. Based on preliminary information, sophomore Devin Davis was injured after being struck by a vehicle driven by teammate freshman Emmitt Holt, just moments after exiting that vehicle.

Davis was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital and is currently in serious condition. Holt was cited for illegal consumption and operating a vehicle with a BAC above 0.02. Holt had a BAC of 0.025.

"'First and foremost, our thoughts are with Devin and his family and we pray that his condition improves in the coming days,' coach Tom Crean said in a statement. 'An injury to one of us is an injury to all of us and we are devastated by the news. We will continue to support Devin and Emmitt in every possible way and I know the Hoosier family will come together to rally for these young men. We are working to gather additional information on the accident.'"

Season outlook: For the Hoosiers, talent will not be the issue. The challenge for first year head coach Mike Woodson will be getting all of the new pieces to fit and getting the returning guys acclimated to everything that he is changing.

Any job is challenging for a new head coach to walk in and be successful immediately, but if Woodson can figure out the correct lineups and rotations early on in the season, they will have a very good chance to return to the postseason and even be a team to watch in the conference, because — as it should always be — Indiana’s talent is undeniable.

Indiana men's basketball star guard Xavier Johnson was arrested and charged with reckless driving and resisting law enforcement, according to a report Sunday by Peegs.com, which cited the Monroe (Ind.) County Correctional Center. The Hoosiers released the following statement on the matter.

"Indiana University Athletics and the men’s basketball program are aware of the charges involving Xavier Johnson," Indiana's statement said. "IU Athletics will continue to gather facts, cooperate with and monitor the legal process, and take further action as the evolving situation warrants."

Johnson was released from Monroe County Jail Sunday on $2,000 surety and a $500 cash bond, according to a report Sunday by the Indy Star.

I'd want to see some video before I started passing judgement.

That area is a redneck hellhole. Reckless driving and resisting law enforcement are a couple of very ambiguous terms. It could be anywhere between crossing a white line and not getting out of the car fast enough to driving 150 in a 35 and coming out of the car swinging.

I'd trust the cops in that area about as far as I could throw one one of the fat, doughnut eating bastards.

A cop “saw him” supposedly doing 90mph in his Dodge Charger (where’s the radar gun?). He pulled into an apartment complex and tried to switch seats with the passenger before the cop pulled up (nice fall guy!). Indiana law changed from “resisting arrest” to “resisting law enforcement” which can mean just about anything if LEO feels like it/disrespected. Purposefully vague.

Still really stupid and reckless. Cause for an eye-opening wake up call for him but welcome to the life of 20 year old males.

So, like most things, somewhere in the middle. He was doing shit he shouldn't have been doing but it's not exactly arch criminal stuff that gives IU (or any program) a "black eye".

Allegedly.

The Indiana Hoosiers might be saying goodbye to a star this offseason. Trayce Jackson-Davis took to social media to announce his intention of entering the NBA Draft this summer. However, the Indiana star said he would maintain his college eligibility should he want to return in 2022-23. Jackson-Davis was integral to helping the Hoosiers to the 2022 NCAA Tournament. He was arguably the best player on the roster for first-year coach Mike Woodson.

Arguably? Who's arguing?
