Game Thread Indiana @ Ohio State - 10/06/18, 4:00PM (FOX)

Agreed. I’m a little disappointed in him not keeping his word of letting Day run the offense without interference. But the suggestions that he’s going to retire because he took a knock to the head while trying to point out an open man in the end zone is hilarious. Has he looked worn down at times? Absolutely. Who wouldn’t be worn down trying to figure out why the defense is this bipolar? I’m sure he knew he would have his hands full, but I doubt he thought he would have this many problems defensively. It’s great having several tune up weeks to prepare for the back end of the schedule and CCG/Playoffs. I think the defense will always be a bit of a liability at times, but I also think they have the ability to minimize some of that as well.

Good post!

Maybe you dudes need to temper your expectations about OSU winning every game by 30 points? It's like nobody remembers what the OSU-IU game looked like last year when OSU DBs were getting scorched repeatedly by the IU WRs. Or 2015 when OSU was down 10-6 at the half and had to hang on to win 34-27 (game where fucking Zander Diamant ran wild). Or 2014 when it took a Jalin Marshall PRTD just for OSU to be up 21-20 headed to the 4th quarter (and OSU gave up a 90 yard TD run to Tevin Coleman). Or 2012 when they held on to win 52-49 and gave up 481 yards of offense. I said before the game that IU ran exactly the kind of offense that would give the D problems and I was right. Quick passes, a mobile QB, misdirection, and jump balls.

IU won most of the jump balls in the first half, but OSU was much better in the second half. Sheffield had a couple of very nice breakups in solo coverage and even when they did get a couple catches, they were heavily contested.
Isaiah Pryor had his best game (half-game, I suppose) by far. Solid tackling and was in tight coverage on a number of completions where the throw was perfect.
Wint....yeah....I was hard on Webb, Powell, Christian Bryant, and others, but this guy simply cannot be on the field this season. It's really bad. They did have Wade in his place for a while in the 2nd quarter.
Outside of a couple early miscues, I thought the LBs were pretty darn good today -- Harrison, Borland, and Werner in particular. Ramsey really didn't do much of anything with his legs (especially on scrambles) which was a huge concern to me.
The DL did a nice job in run D, but man did they struggle to get any pressure. That is disconcerting.

The OL does concern me. There is a team up north with a pretty good DL that definitely is going to be problematic. Michael Jordan seemed to tweak something in his knee on the int return by IU -- I know he stayed in and hopefully its nothing.
Haskins was just unreal for most of the game..... not perfect, though...of his 4 ints this season, 3 were when he was getting hit -- either he needs to throw it away or just take the sack sometimes. That being said....he's thrown some beautiful passes while getting hit, too....so I guess you just have to take the good with the bad there. Honestly, I don't hate giving him a few running plays just to keep the opponent honest, but they need to do it with the right play calls -- there were a number of gives early where there was nobody outside if he kept it -- but when they actually DID call it for him to keep, they ran him into a mess of defenders.
The WRs are fucking badasses. Every one of them. The catch-and-run from Vic last week was awesome, but that catch today....holy balls. TMac, Johhnie D, and Parris....plus Mack and Victor? Wow. WRs....in my IMO....are the best overall unit on the team (other than maybe DL and QB) It is the only unit where I have zero concerns were there to be an injury. These dudes are just killing it.

Oh, and coming off a tremendously emotional win last week, they still won by 23 against a 4-1 football team. So, my dudes....take a damned chill pill.

The Urban Meyer offense has been at OSU since 2012

This is the first time he has had a QB who is no threat to run the ball.

If you expect them to just man ball it down teams throats when 5 are trying to block 6 or 6 on 7 then you are going to be consistently frustrated.

I agree with your general thesis... but I feel compelled to say the following.
What frustrates me is trying to stick with QB Dave when it simply isn't going to work with Haskins. Just like it didn't work with Cardale. Urban needs to let go of his blanky for just 1 year...

Teams are able to run out of spread. But I do accept we should give up on the newfound "8yds and a cloud of dust" standard we had in the JT-Zeke years. I'd really love to see some of those unbalanced looks we saw with Cardale against Oregon too... pretty confident Haskins can run screens out of that and the WRs are blocking like monsters.

As an aside, I wonder what the numbers would look like if we took the screen and forward-pass sweep game out of passing stats and added back into rushing stats. That would probably assuage some fans' worries. Or not. But I think it's a more accurate way of expressing that we still have a well balanced offense capable of grinding yards and clock.

His numbers are gaudy, if not at such a volume as others...but, they have literally played no one of note and they won't until November. He will literally have 2 months of tomato cans to build a head of steam. I have a hard time giving him too much credit when he has played nothing but scrubs.

I didn't realize how ridiculously soft their schedule is until i just looked at it. It's absurd.

This...I have watched a lot of CFB games this year but honestly haven’t watched a single snap of Bama. It’s not for SEC spite they just haven’t been in a decent enough matchup to compel me to watch or record their games. He may be the 2nd coming of Jesus but I won’t know until they actually play a meaningful matchup. Haskins has heisman #’s and “moments” (cringe) but if he doesn’t win the trophy I gives a damn. Would love it for him but I’m much happier seeing our guy celebrating a natty with his teammates.

6-0
2 top 15 road wins including against our biggest in conference threat
Averaging 40+ points per game and 550ish yards per game
Breaking in young D cause we put so many stud underclassmen in the league
Getting our best player back likely before next major challenge
Loads of talent continuing to flow in
We get everyone’s best shot week every week
Urban Meyer is our head coach
Rival has Harbro as head coach

Guys, we’ve got nothing to panic about. Things could be better on D and with our running game but come on. This team is loaded and showing more potential at this stage of the season than the 14 crew. Enjoy the ride boys...

Watching that Iowa game last year is like watching The Exorcist for the first time when you're 6. Shit stays with you.

For me it was Salem’s Lot. My oldest sister (12 years my senior) thought I’d be OK with it at the age of 5. I had night terrors of Nosferatu for at least the next three years.

DISAPPOINTED!

Wait, they won?

Other than the D Line this D is almost trash.

I'm not too far from your thinking... but there have been blips... Harrison and Werner come to mind... could we really be missing Coach Combs that much or are we counting on HS stars and hype expectations... I don't see a first rounder in that defensive backfield altho Okudah and Wade have serious promise

This right here. And before anyone starts talking about how this team would never beat Bama playing like this...

They just gave up 31 to Arkansas. CO State and North Texas, both of which beat Arkansas, didn’t give up that many points to them. The competition that they’ve faced up to this point is also incredibly inferior. They don’t have a top 10 nor a top 15 win.

That’s the cold hard truth about the #1 team in the nation right now that everyone is drooling over. I’m here to tell you, they have issues and are very beatable.

One game at a time.

So now that the facts are on full display...

Best thing about being 6-0?

For me it was Sammy Terry, which is ironic since he’s from Indiana, but we used to get their local broadcast here in Ohio.

I’m happy to report nothing from Indiana scares me anymore. I look back at that program with the same nostalgia as I do the wins over their football program.

Good times.
