Game Thread Indiana @ Ohio State - 10/06/18, 4:00PM (FOX)

If I was as smart as I used to think I was....I'd find some calculation to factor in the "playing Ohio State" motivation. Like.....this team is 49th in total offense. How much do you want to bet they don't play like only the 49th best offensive team in the country this weekend? How much do you want to bet they'll do better than 4.3 YPC?
Paging DDB DBB and his differential analysis....

I believe that's known as the "self loathing sports fan always waiting for the other shoe to fall" calculation.

I know it well

If Ohio State comes ready to play we should be able to easily take care of business. However, the Ohio State defense has to reverse it's propensity to give up the big plays, etc. Indiana does have some offensive players that have had a few long plays (i.e. > 30 yards): https://iuhoosiers.com/documents/2018/9/2//season_stats.pdf?id=28690

Yep.

They gashed Sparty for a long TD off a simple slant.

I think with the defense we should set the bar for expectations at about 28 points and 3 big plays. Forget yardage, they are always going to surrender that.

Then start measuring success by how much below those numbers they can keep any offense with a pulse.

They have averaged 28 points against 5 mediocue to poor teams. Set the bar at no more than 14 -17 points, and zero big plays.

I would except that Oregon freaking State and TCU kind of showed us that is indeed the bar for this defense.

Two-Minute Drill: Urban Meyer Monday Updates 10.1.18
Asked what specifically needs to be fixed on defense, Meyer said that was a good question, but you have to evaluate each play to see what the issues were. “The answer is you have to play better. You have to continue to play better. It’s week six…” you have to clean it up at this point.

Remind me again how many 5 star recruits we have on the defensive side of the ball. The bar should be set at their potential, not at their past performance.

A little boy comes home from school frustrated because he can't remember the difference between the words "potentially" and "actually".

He confides in his wise father who shocks him with a plan to learn the difference once and for all.

Dad says "go ask your sister and then your mother, if they would sleep with Brad Pit for $1 million dollars"

Little boy is confused but dutifully executes.

Sister; "I'd sleep with him for free"
Mother: "I'd do it for one hell of a lot less than a million dollars but yes."

A shaken young man reports this back to his father.

Dad: "you see son, your mom and sister are potentially both millionaires but actually they are just a couple of cheap sluts."

Potentially this defense is hell on wheels, actually they are lucky to keep teams under 30.

Well, I'm happy because this game is on Fox, which means Gus Johnson and either Charles Davis or Joel Klatt, my favorites.

A little bit of ESPN goes a long way, especially having to listen to Herbstreit talk about how much he loves the opponents.

49-14, Good Guys. GO BUCKS!!! :urban2:
