Indians Tidbits (2009 season)

On the way to another sweep at the hands of the Bosox.

Peralta is [censored]ing garbage. Too bad we have no better 3B options next year. Marte. :paranoid:

[censored], just give Wes Hodges a chance, he cant possibly be any worse than Peralta

and Sowers is total trash, he ends the season with a sky high ERA and more walks than strikeouts, time to let go.........

this team is going to be epicly awful next year with that pitching rotation, Headcase Carmona, DL Westbrook, Huff and his 5+ ERA, Laffey, Masterson/Sowers/Scott Lewis, absolutely terrible

Looks like Shoppach probably won't be back, paving the way for Marson to get significant time until Santana is ready.

As the offseason plays out and spring training nears, several moves will be made in regard to the roster and the coaching staff at the big league level. One of those changes is likely to occur at the catching position. The Indians already made a major change at the position just over two months ago when they shipped Victor Martinez to the Boston Red Sox in a July 31st deadline deal. But, Martinez's successor at the position Kelly Shoppach's days also appear numbered as he will likely either be traded this offseason or be non-tendered by the club making him a free agent.

Indians Prospect Insider

Good riddance if true, though, in hindsight, obviously they should have moved him when he had some value.

Farrell Out Of Cleveland Search, Valentine A Candidate: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com
After publicly stating that he is committed to the Red Sox, John Farrell has followed through and removed his name from consideration to be the Indians' next skipper, writes ESPN's Buster Olney. This comes on the heels of a Ken Rosenthal report that Cleveland was moving on as though Farrell would not be a candidate - but would have likely considered him again if he declared his interest in the job.

If Farrell and Cleveland had come to an agreement, they would have had to negotiate with Boston for a way out of the clause barring him from managing in 2010.

Now that they have scratched their reported early favorite off the list, the Indians must move ahead with their search. Rosenthal says the Tribe plans to conduct 8-10 phone interviews before whittling their way down to 3-5 finalists by the third week of October. Olney says that Torey Lovullo - manager of Cleveland's AAA affiliate - is among the in-house options that might be considered. Both Rosenthal and Olney identify Bobby Valentine as a contender.

In a seperate report, Olney says that Valentine is already talking to the Marlins about a position. Although Valentine recently signed on with ESPN as an analyst, it is believed that his contract contains an escape clause that would allow him to accept an MLB managerial job. The charismatic skipper spent the last six years managing the Pacific League's Chiba Lotte Marines, where he had the support of the fans, but not the cash-strapped organization. The Mets reached the NLCS in 1999, the World Series in 2000 and went 536-467 (.534) in six seasons and change under Bobby V.

Cincy's gone 7-21 since I made this post while Cleveland's gone 15-12. The Reds are now half a game better than the Tribe. This is what I get for trying to be sympathetic. :slappy:

And since this:

Cincy: 30-22
Cleveland: 17-34

This post should ensure the Indians get off to a hot start next spring as the Reds get pummeled. You are welcome.

Thank god it's the offseason.

66-96. Thank God it's over.

Next year's gonna be another long year. Probably something along the lines of '03, so 90-95 losses is probably a certainty. Of course, the '03 staff still had Sabathia...I don't know who you'd consider the "ace" of next year's gaggle.

Fucking Red Sox

1. i doubt sowers will be the opening day starter.
2. just about everybody was playing out the string in september. the team had totally quit on wedge, including the pitching staff.
3. boston let farrell interview for pittsburgh last year. if farrell wanted out, he could get out. chances are, he doesn't want to come to this trainwreck while he can play kingshit in waiting with the freespending redsox.

You have got to be joking about Sowers. I would start a deadhead Carmona before I would put Jeremy out there on starting day.

Assuming Westbrook arm is okay in spring training, I could assume a starting rotation of Carmona, Westbrook, Laffey, Huff, and a pickup, in no particular order. Maybe Rondon will live up to his billing and come on like Sonny Siebert:)

It just amazes me how Minnesota can do it year after year and you talk about small market teams. They don't even have a cable network like STO which was supposed to bring in extra cash for the Indians. When you look at Minnesota, it really makes you wonder about Shapiro and our great minor league farm system.

Minnesota has one of, if not the best, coaches/coaching staffs in baseball. It isn't talent. I challenge you to name 2 players on that team aside from Mauer and Morneau. Yet, somehow, year in and year out, they maximize their talent. They're very good fundamentally and have great chemistry. A great coach and fundamentals, that's how they do it. Two things sorely lacking here.

As for the Tribe's farm system, it was productive at the beginning of the decade and laid the foundation for good 2005 and 2007 seasons. It was beginning to dry up due to poor drafting before the moves of the past two summers, so i wouldn't go writing it off yet by any means.

A dumbshit manager, and bad drafts have got them in this pickle, hopefully they find a new manager that can actually handle a pitching staff and young players. They have some talent in the system again, it's just gonna take patience to allow it to develop.

i think you'll see a rotation of carmona, westbrook, masterson, sowers, then any combination of huff, laffey, carasco.

it's a total shame that adam miller's finger fell off. he'd make this rotation look semi-respectable.

That would be my guess as well. I think this is the first year in as long as can remember that they don't bring in a bargain-bin retread.
Carmona, Westbrook are the locks. I think Sowers has to fight, but wins a spot in the end. Masterson probably gets in, but I'm still not convinced his future isn't middle relief. Same with Laffey. I think that leaves out Huff and Carrasco. Huff is what he is, I don't know that there's anymore development there. Carrasco was a mess after getting the call. He didi show some electric stuff, he just needs to learn how to work. Probably best for more AAA time.

Problem is, none of those guys are close to an "ace". Hopefully Rondon is the real deal. Gomez has some promise as well and both could be ready at some point next summer. Knapp and Hagadone are a ways off, but are both promising if their health holds out.

lol yea

at least carmona has some sort of stuff, even though he cant control it

Sowers is basically batting practice, a soft tossing lefty who throws straight darts with no effective secondary stuff
