Indians Tidbits (2010 season)

Awesome?

2007: 73-89
2008: 59-102
2009: 26-61

Granted, that was with pretty bad teams...but the Tribe's also gonna be pretty bad for a while. Honestly,I don't know much about him other than he was well liked by his players...so consider me "meh".

I'm a fan of the Mattingly idea, though I very much doubt it happens.

Sorry, forgot the sarcasm font...figured it was dripping enough, but point taken

Acta had an awesome record in Washington, with more talent than he'll have in Cleveland...let the good times roll...
plus he might be able to communicate with Carmona in his native tongue. Perhaps Carmona did not understand what Willis was trying to tell him like throwing the ball over the plate:)

But yeah... somebody shoot me if Acta is the head coach next year. I would much prefer a Travis Fryman/Hargrove as bench coach combo than Acta. And god help me with the other options, really... we can't find anyone better???

Then again... Acta would come cheap and when we still suck in 2 years we can fire him and try to get Farrell... again (fucking RedSox)

:bonk:We aren't going anyplace soon and I think a guy like Acta would be a refreshing change and Hargrove could be his bench coach.

I think you know that I wasn't the Red Sox who denied Farrell the right to manage the Indians. He turned it down on his own.

I would prefer
1. Mattingly (it would certainly bring a fresh look to the Indians)
2. Acta (after reading about him and what he did with the Nationals bullpen plusses ability to relate to Latino players would put him second on my list.

After that, it really doesn't matter:!

Ditto...

Does Mattingly want to coach THAT badly to accept the Indians job???
It might not be as unattractive job as it seems on the surface. For a small market team, the Tribe has been reasonably successful. On top of that, they now have one of the better farm systems in baseball. If he's interested in developing young talent, it would be pretty attractive.

However...

Acta, 40, said he has no regrets about his time with the Nationals, who fired him after a 21-61 start last season.
"I knew what I was getting into," he said. "I knew rebuilding is tough. It's grueling and you are going to suffer in Ws and Ls and people earn their right to judge you on that. But I'm thankful that baseball people count more the Ws than the Ls when you are going through the rebuilding process."
Last week, Acta interviewed for Houston's opening. He was drafted by the Astros as a 17-year-old and played and managed in their system until 2001. When he was 22, the Astros told him he could not play in the majors, so he turned to coaching as a way to make baseball his life.
Acta, who prides himself on his communication skills, was prepared for his interview with the Indians. He spent countless hours watching them on TV last season, knowing they might be changing managers. He rattled off the names of Indians players, from stars to part-timers, and said the rebuilding project in Cleveland is far different from the one he left in Washington.
"This is far and away advanced," he said. "The Indians have a lot of pieces in place."
Acta was born in the Dominican Republic and his ability to communicate with Cleveland's Latino players is a plus.
"I can communicate with them without anything getting lost in translation," he said. "It's on my side but I hope I'm not getting the job just because I'm bilingual."

That leads me to believe he would be a front runner. Call it a hunch. I wouldn't be overwhelmed with that hiring, but I can think of a lot worse. It's hard to hold his record in Washington against him. That was just a bad situation and a lot of baseball people speak highly of him.
