Iowa doesn't play OSU or Michigan in 2007-2008

Man, just the thought of adding ND to the big 10...11....12...whatever....stirs up so many different emotions.

1. Screw 'em!!! We invited them, and they turned us down. Stuck up shit heads!!!
2. Then again, let 'em in! I wouldn't mind pounding on those jerks on a yearly basis. And NDChief, don't get any crazy ideas, ND joining the Big Ten would be the death of their football program. Just ask Penn State.
3. I hate ND. Even worse than scUM. I just can't stand the band wagon fans who have to have their own network deal for their lame ass team.
4. ND is the obvious choice for a 12th team. Who else is there? Marshall? Ohio U? Kent? WV? No way. ND is it.

So, that leaves me with the obvious answer: boot Northwestern's ass out and get back to the Big 10!

In my perfect world the B10 uses the soon to be 12 game regular season to ensure everyone plays one another and stays at 11 teams thus continuing The Game as we know it.

However, I think we all need to be realists as far as our perception of The Games value to the B10. The offer was made to ND to be the 12th team, ND took a pass. If they had not then we would already have two 6-team divisions and a title game. It worked out well for us as it is, but 11 teams was not the B10's intention.

It only stands to reason that if ND warmed to the idea and asked to be in the B10 would welcome them. Too much $$ and prestige involved to let some bruised pride stand in the way.

There are no other good canidates to add a 12th team or I am quite sure the B10 would have extended an offer and they will never kick anyone out. So, imo, it still comes down to ND or stay at 11 teams.

As far as the original premise of the thread goes, lets say Iowa and OSU/scUM split titles those years they don't play. That more than likely gives the B10 two BCS teams instead of one. You really think they will monkey with that kind of revenue so fans know who the "real" champ was?? I don't.

No, imo if ND comes back with hat in hand and a way can be found to save face for all(it will) they are the 12th team. If they don't we stay at 11 untill they do(if ever).

Many here forget that years ago ND asked to join the BIG10 but was turned down.

May very well be wrong here but I thought I heard somewhere that Penn State has not won one BIG 1O title in any sport since joining. That true?

PSU won football their first year(1994). No football or mens bball since and I have absolutely no idea about other sports.

EDIT************

Here's what PSU lists as their B10 titles:

[pre]Less Than a Decade Since Joining the Big Ten Conference,
Penn State Has Won 18 Season and 7 Tournament Championships
1992-93 Women's Volleyball (C)

1993-94 Women's Basketball (C)
Field Hockey
Men's Soccer
Women's Volleyball

1994-95 Women's Basketball (C)
Women's Basketball (T)
Football

1995-96 Baseball
Women's Basketball(T)
Field Hockey

1996-97 Field Hockey (T)
Women's Volleyball (C)
1997-98 Field Hockey (C)
Field Hockey (T)
Women's Volleyball (T)

1998-99 Field Hockey
Field Hockey (T)
Women's Soccer
Women's Soccer (T)
Men's Swimming and Diving
Women's Volleyball

1999-2000 Women's Basketball
Women's Soccer
Women's Volleyball

C: Regular Season Co-Champions
T: Tournament Champions

The first Penn State teams - 18 in all - started Big Ten play in 1991-92.

[/pre]

I say congrats to them on all this stuff but they have been a dismal failure in both Football and Men's B-ball.

Hoo-Rah for PSU for their titles. I think they'll turn around in football. PA is supposedly a huge resource for high school talent. I woulda thunk JoePa would have recruited betterer that he has the past few years. And I've been rooting for him the past few years; I like him. He treats his players fairly well, they have better than average discipline, and unless I'm mistaken, he's always at the top of the list of Big Ten coaches (maybe even nationally) for player graduation rates. I've been hoping he'd regain his career wins total, and Bobby "I don't care how many times you get in trouble with the law, as long as you score touchdowns for me" Bowden loses all his games.

But that's off the subject. I say don't boot out PSU. Don't boot out NW. Don't re-invite ND. If you want 10 teams, you might be SOL, because I don't think any team will leave anytime soon. If you want 12 teams, you're going to have to settle for goof-crap teams like Marshall or Louisville (which I hope won't happen), or steal Kentucky from SEC (which i hope won't happen, and won't happen), or steal someone from Big12, like Iowa State, which of course won't happen, but it would be pretty funny. And sometimes, thinking of funny stuff is more fun that thinking of realistic stuff.

Realistically, by the way, is that this is all a moo point. (When a cow talks, it doesn't matter.) Big 10 has 11 teams, and will stay 11 for a while.
