Iowa @ Ohio State, 2/28/16, 4:00 ET, CBS

Very, very proud of this team for many reasons. First, they come out and play that hard without Tate in the lineup...Mitchell stepped up nicely and everyone did their part. Second, I am very proud of the Buckeye basketball fans for coming out to support the team like they did...very loud in the Schott today and the players fed off that energy. All in all, I am just very happy with our players and fans in response to a tough loss. I have been as frustrated with anyone in the way the year has played out so far, but the effort is so high right now that I look forward to watching them every game.

I still doubt they end up in the tourney but we have a lot to look forward to with this group.

Very frustrating to not make the tourney, especially when I see some of the teams getting those 8-10 seeds. Most (if not all) have better records, but a few with 0-1 top 25 wins. Those stupid losses early in the year when it looked like they just expected to beat less talented teams really hurt. Get 2-3 wins in the Big Ten tourney with a few big upsets and it might just be enough.

kenpom, rpi, bpi all above 60. Just don't see it happening without a huge finish.

At least on the official website, the RPI rankings haven't been updated since OSU's win over Iowa.

That said, the thinking is the same: if OSU wins 2 of their final 3 in the regular season and one BTT game, they're in. Losing at home to MSU was a big blow to those hopes. But winning last night at least kept the possibility alive. They've got a formidable task ahead of them with a trip to East Lansing on MSU's senior day. But at least there's no mid-week game for the Bucks--they'll have all week to rest and prepare for MSU. MSU has a mid-week game at Rutgers on Wednesday. Rutgers is garbage, to be sure, but MSU still has to travel to the east coast and back in the middle of the week, and then play us on two days' rest. Weirder things have happened...

And as I've said, simply winning in East Lansing plus one BTT game will not get us in. No way. We'll need to do better in the conference tournament even with a victory away against Sparty.

Winning in East Lansing and winning a BTT game absolutely would get us in. We'd have won 6 of 7 to close out the regular season, including two wins against top 10 teams (and one of those being on the road), and we would not have a bad loss in the BTT.

Like I said before, I disagree with you, but would love to see it happen to confirm which of us is right!

That is something we definitely can agree on. :oh:

I'm not sure how much stock I put in his predictions, but some people think Joe Lunardi is a pretty solid prognosticator as to who gets in and who is left out. He currently has us as #2 on the list of next 4 out (i.e., there are 5 teams ahead of us that are also left out). Assuming he's right, I think a win at MSU (plus one BTT win) bodes well for us--the win at MSU (who will be in the top 5 when the rankings come out later today, and is currently #1 on Kenpom) will be more impressive than anything those 5 teams above us can do this week; plus, a least a few of the teams he has in his "last teams in" will lose this week, I suspect.

Obviously, all of this is irrelevant if we lose at MSU. However, as someone else pointed out, even though this game is on the road, there's no way MSU will shoot the ball as well as they did in Columbus. So we have that going for us.

We'll see in East Lansing if we're finally seeing real progress with this team, or if this will just be another in a long line of frustrating starts-stops. A win would be nice, but even playing a competitive game would make me feel a lot better about this team going forward. Get blown out of the water again and my concerns remain.

Matta wanted that game ball. Wonder who he gives it to?

From his call in show via 11W:
  • Tate got out of the hospital Sunday before the game, Matta said. The team gave him the game ball via FaceTime afterwards, but Matta said he wasn't sure if he would remember it because he is still on pain medication: "I read a text he sent me at 1:45 a.m. to the team before the game that was quite funny."
