The Ruler's Back
I couldn't find a thread on this, so I posted it. If there is one already, much apologies.

Alright, I have no clue if this is legit, but being a broke college student, I went to this website. The person who referred me sent me a web page with testimonials from people who have had this succeed, so I figured it's worth a try. Basically, you sign up, and sign up for an offer, and if you get five people to do the same (sign up and sign up for an offer), you get a free iPod.

The offers are okay -- there's some, like Ancestry.com and Infone.com that all you have to do is sign up, and only pay if you use it, so I signed up for Infone and got credited.

www.freeiPods.com is the site. If you're going to sign up, if you'd help me out with mine (http://www.freeiPods.com/default.aspx?referer=10786002), I'd appreciate it. I wouldn't mind having a free iPod, and I let you guys know because if it is legit, then I'm happy to help out this place (I love it).

If somebody knows if this is legit or a scam, let me know. If this breaks a rule, feel free to let me know and delete it, but if I can help the Planet out, I'm going to.

Anytime you see something like this, it's bullshit. Just like that old e-mail scam where if you forward your e-mail to so many people, Bill Gates himself will pay you $200 (or some stupid amount). People who actually believe this shit are beyond help...

:(

I saw it on CNN, and I saw a guy who had actually gotten it (with physical proof), but I assumed I'm not counting on it, or anything. Just curious if anybody had done it.

I did think it was too good to be true, hence, I posted here, but hey, I'm nothing if not a little bit gullible.

Pyramid schemes do work - for the top of the pyramid. If this is getting that much pub chances are the bottom is being reached - but I hope it works out for you.

Then again - my iPod was a gift, but to use it I had to upgrade my OS, buy a larger hard drive, and install a firewire card. Worth every penney.

As oh8ch said, the top dogs benefit, but the 99% below don't. Just like the Amway crap of 20-30 years ago...if you got in on the ground floor, you probably ended up making a bunch of coin, but those below made less and less each level you went down. Think about it...with all the people on the web, do you really think they can afford to give out an ipod for evey five people?

I wondered why I never got my money...

Well, my thought is that these companies benefit enough from the 5 referrals that they pay for the iPod. From the increased hits and the amount of people that forget to cancel the service and end up paying for nothing, you know? I mean, I could be totally wrong, but it makes at least a little amount of sense.

Still, I am skeptical. I mean, I signed up regardless because it cost me nothing. If I don't get it, I didn't have an iPod before, and if I do, then great. I'm not banking on it by any means, but we'll see. I hope you don't think I'm an idiot for that, I'd like to consider myself intelligent.

I hate to admit this, but I work in internet advertising and have worked with those guys (any many of the other clones on the internet, the offer is everywhere) and most of them are completely legit, as a number of my coworkers have recieved them. Key is to look through the T&Cs and the Rules first, make sure you know what you 'really' have to do to get one.
