Jacksonville Jaguars (official thread)

As the Jacksonville Jaguars embark on their first season under head coach Urban Meyer, the franchise has reportedly decided to do away with multiple members from its scouting department. According to a report from Pro Football Talk, Jacksonville has fired four members from its scouting department.

Per the report from PFT, Director of Pro Personnel Chris Driggers, Assistant Director of Player Personnel Andy Dengler, Director of College Scouting Mark Ellenz and Assistant Director of College Scouting Paul Roell are the four individuals from the scouting department who will not be continuing with the franchise into the Meyer era. The four were reportedly informed on Monday that they would not be retained.

Two of the the four men had been with the team for more than two decades. Dengler had been on staff with the Jaguars organization since 1998, while Driggers had been with the team since its inception ahead of the 1995 NFL season. Driggers, who had been in his role since 2015, was one of only six remaining employees from the first day of the franchise, per PFT.

Just wondering:

a) Did they clash with Urban?

b) Did Jaguar management finally realize that if these scouts were actually any good the Jaguars wouldn't currently be the worst fucking team in the NHL?

OR

c) Both a and b.

He’s finally back. After his NFL career ended prematurely and his dreams of playing in the MLB stopped at Triple-A baseball with the New York Mets, Tim Tebow is back in the NFL according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

According to the report, Tebow is planning on signing a one-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He reunites with his University of Florida coach Urban Meyer, who enters his first year as an NFL head coach.

Of course the twist is, Tebow is not signing as a quarterback.

Just sayin': Urban always did like Tebow.

Jacksonville Jaguars propose $441M project for stand-alone football facility

The Jacksonville Jaguars and owner Shad Khan are proposing a plan for a development project around TIAA Bank Field that would include the stand-alone football facility desired by coach Urban Meyer.

The cost for the two-phase project would be more than $441 million, with Khan paying for half of the $120 million football facility. The Jaguars hope the project is the first step in what they are calling the Stadium of the Future for Jaguars fans, meaning eventual significant renovations -- or possibly even a brand-new one -- within the next decade.

"Shad is making a big bet on our future," Jaguars president Mark Lamping said in a statement. "So, this is a big plan. Working together, we can make this happen."

Although the team hopes construction could begin by the end of the year, the proposal still must gain approval from multiple city committees as well as the city council. Khan had been the driving force of a previous $450 million project proposal similar to the new proposal (sans practice facility) in another area adjacent to the stadium, but the city council failed to reach a majority vote this past January and the project was shelved.

Meyer has been vocal about his desire for a new football facility because he believes the team's current setup -- in which everything is contained in the bowels of TIAA Bank Field -- is inadequate.

The proposed 125,000-square-foot facility would be constructed outside the north end of the stadium and would include locker rooms, meeting rooms, training and recovery areas, medical support facilities, a weight room, dining areas and offices. It would also include public viewing stands, restrooms, concession areas, a retail store and a public meeting space.

In addition, there would be two full-size grass practice fields and a full-size indoor practice field. The Jaguars currently have an indoor practice field on the south end of the stadium, but the new plan would give it to the city's parks and recreation department for 300-plus days a year

The Jacksonville Jaguars and Urban Meyer reportedly boosted their special teams in a big way Thursday, as NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport says the team is signing Pharoh Cooper. An All-Pro and Pro Bowler in 2017 with the Los Angeles Rams as a return man, the former South Carolina Gamecocks standout spent 2020 with the Carolina Panthers.

Cooper caught five passes for 72 yards in the passing game last year, but his primary role has always been returning kicks and punts. He returned 18 kicks with an average of 23.9 yards per return, while he returned 20 punts, averaging 5.9 yards per return.

Cooper spent the 2019 season with the Cincinnati Bengals and Arizona Cardinals. Drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Rams, Cooper’s best season was in 2017, when he averaged a league-best 27.4 yards per kick return, returning one for a 103-yard touchdown and 12.5 yards per punt return.

Back in April, Swinney dove into what Lawrence needs for success with the Jaguars.

"Well, I mean, we talked in person, talked tonight before the draft and first thing I told him is, 'Don't screw it up,' to be honest with you," Swinney said the day of the first round of the NFL Draft. "'Don't screw it up.' This guy, this'll be a very easy transition. And he's well prepared. What he's stepping into and the expectations and all those things, that's his normal. That's his normal. And it has been for a long time. He's built the right way. He's grounded in his faith. He's got a wonderful family. He's married to his middle-school sweetheart.

"This guy ... he's the epitome of consistency. And if you know anything about Urban Meyer, that's something that he values is consistency and toughness. And I didn't have to sell him on his toughness, he saw that up close and personal. So I think the biggest thing we talked about is just some of the intangibles that he had a chance to see over the past three years and his love of the game, his love preparation and his ability to lead and really just makes everyone else better. Just has such a great feel for the game, his instincts and all those things."
