Jameis Winston (QB New Orleans Saints)

Good stuff. I've been really impressed with Winston and as much as I would love to have him...there are too many other positions in much more dire need. To be honest, I would much rather have the remainder of the class consist of 2 OL prospects, Spence, and an ATH or two, depending on how much space is available. I'd rather land S. Diggs or C. Jones ahead of Winston...but then again if he really wanted to come here, you just don't say no to that.

EDIT: I'm talking in circles....yeah I don't know what to think

I'm thinking the same things. There are more critical positions to address.

Yes there are more positions of need, but we only have 3 scholarship qbs right now. Another high caliber one wouldn't hurt having

Of course not. Like I said...if Jameis Winston wants to play ball at OSU, he will play ball at OSU. But I'm thinking (hoping) the staff is focusing on more critical positions.

The idea of playing college baseball and hoping to be a college QB (as opposed to a different position) strikes me as daunting. Would he skip spring practices and the spring game or skip baseball games (and practice) for those weeks?

If anything, perhaps any desire to play both sports ought to cause Winston to look at the school with the more favorable baseball roster...

There is no position more critical than quarterback.
particularly since incoming QBs will not only get major reps as the backups, but may be the ONLY backups if Kenny decides to move on also.

Agreed. We've already had one QB move on. So now we have Miller, Guiton and Jones. Wouldn't hurt to have someone of Winton's caliber if he wanted to be in the class.

You bring valuable insight LordJeff...thx. I guess I didn't realize we could potentially be low on qb's...especially if Kenny transfers. I figure if that happens Jones and Winston would duke it out for second string, with the loser redshirting. How likely is it Guiton would transfer? Has he made any indications?

I will say this: without enough reliable offensive tackles we may need 4 or 5 qb's due to injuries....this year OT's are just as important as getting another quarterback imo because we have zero depth on the OL. I guess I'm also in the field that just isn't overly confident that we have a shot at getting Winston...but then again before Meyer got here I would've said that about a lot of ppl...

For anyone in the know, is baseball his preferred sport, kind of like Bubba Starling last year?

Video: Five-star recruit Jameis Winston at Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game
Published: Monday, December 12, 2011
By Dennis Pillion, al.com

MONTGOMERY, Alabama -- Five-star quarterback recruit Jameis Winston was one of the main attractions going into Saturday's Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game, and the two-sport star showed why in Alabama's 31-12 victory.

Winston completed 17 of 24 pass attempts for 121 yards and rushed for 37 yards and a touchdown.

The two-sport star from Hueytown committed to Florida State back in August, but that hasn't stopped Alabama and Auburn from trying to keep Winston in the state. This might all be moot however, as Winston is expected to be a high pick in the MLB draft, and has said he won't turn down "first-round money."

Interview by The Bank with Winston's HC.....Will definitely visit Florida State in January. Would like to visit Ohio State, but his coach isn't sure if there will be enough time. Coach Herman visited him last week & his coach was impressed by him.
