Do we need to get a thread going on Jared Cook, 6-5 202 WR from Georgia? Apparently he is getting an in-home visit next week from one of our coaches...

Can play WR or LB...brother signed last year with Ole Miss...grew up an Auburn fan. Has a few basketball offers as well (Miss St., Tulane, South Carolina).

Height: 6-foot-5
Weight: 202 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.6 seconds

Cook is rated #56 in the country at WR. He's a 3 star prospect according to Rivals.com.

Biography:
A huge target that runs extremely well. In the weight room, Cook puts up 230 pounds on the bench, squats 390 pounds and has a 35" vertical leap. Cook lines up at Free Safety and Wide Receiver for the Bulldogs, but is being recruited strictly to play receiver in college.

Audibles: "Pretty much all the schools recruiting me told me to come to camp and that they wanted to see some more film. I broke my foot last year and didn’t get to play all that much so they are all kind of waiting to see what I can do." -North Gwinnett receiver Jared Cook

Also...

Suwanee (Ga.) North Gwinnett wide receiver/safety Jared Cook is a jumbo athlete who could play several positions on the college level. He has a great frame and could add enough weight to play linebacker on the college level. He has an incredible 6-foot-5, 202-pound frame and ran a staggering 4.6 second 40-yard dash at the NIKE camp. He does not have any offers yet, but the only reason why is that he broke his ankle as a junior and sat out most of the season. Once he proves that he has overcome the injury in camps this summer and during his senior season he will be very heavily recruited.

North Gwinnett is a relatively new school, but is in a booming area that takes its football really seriously. Cook has played against top-level competition: Parkview (perennial state champions), South Gwinnett (David Greene's and David Pollack's high school).

What jumps off the page is the fact that he is 6-5 202 and runs a 4.6 40 and has a 35-inch vertical. He could end up at WR, TE, S, or LB. Maybe schools have been shying away since he is coming he is coming off an injury...

During his junior season Cook suffered a broken ankle and was forced to sit out the remainder of the year. While he is receiving a lot of interest, most schools are waiting to offer him a football scholarship until they see how he has recovered from the injury this football season.
Also found this...

“I recently picked up offers in basketball from Missouri, Nebraska and Wofford.”

rivals has videos of him up. he looks pretty good. he has a lot of clips that resemble the henne heave to edwards. he also looks pretty confident going over the middle.

he had 32 receptions for 770 yards and 11 td's.
thats roughly 25 ypc.

Teddy Ginn could give him some track training pointers on how to get his 40 time down. I remember hearing/reading something recently that said Teddy was actually pretty slow until he started getting the track training. Ginn's 40 time went from 4.9+ as a HS frosh to under 4.3 in his senior year. Now, that much of an improvement is impossible for Cook, but even if he can knock his 40 time down from 4.6 to 4.4 or better, at 6'5" (or taller later) he could be extremely dangerous.

Does it say if he has an offer yet. Maybe they are doing this b/c Lymon is not going to come here anymore.
Nothing indicates that he has an offer, only that the OSU coaches are doing an in-home visit next week. But I agree, he could potentially solve our TE needs in this class. Plus he has some impressive basketball offers (ie. Shady U aka Mizzou)...

That is absolutely insane that his 40 time dropped .5. Maybe he needs to introduce this training to the whole staff so our de and lbs are all running 4.3's!!!!!

2004 GWINNETT SUPER 11

Jared Cook, North Gwinnett
Position: Wide receiver
Class: Senior
Vital statistics: 6-5, 205
Just the facts: Benches 250 pounds, squats 415; runs 40 in 4.5 seconds.

Super fact: He's a forward on the Bulldogs basketball team and might play both sports in college. What's a bigger thrill, catching a touchdown or throwing down a dunk? "Catching a touchdown because there's more excitement," he said. "Touchdowns are harder to get."

Colleges: Georgia, Clemson, Auburn, Tennessee, Ole Miss and LSU.

Interests: Listening to music, mostly hip-hop. Favorites include Jay-Z, Jadakiss, Lil' Wayne and Cassidy.
What people don't know about me: "I like scary movies."

Favorite athlete: Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Terrell Owens. "I have a style of play just like him. We're the same height. I go up high to get the ball and I'm fast." As for Owens' antics? "You won't see me doing stuff like that."
If I weren't an athlete I'd want to be: "I'd probably go into sports medicine."

General comment on the season: "We're going to do the best we can and get as far as we can. I really am expecting big things, but I can't go overboard with my expectations."

He is also a pretty good BBall player, averaging 11.0 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists.
