Jersey / Uniform Discussion (OSU)

Ohio State Confirms It Will Wear Alternate Uniforms From Chic Harley Era Once During 2016 Season

You probably weren't alive when Chic Harley dominated the gridiron for the Ohio State Buckeyes, but are set to learn a ton about the three-time All-American this football season.

The Buckeyes — as has become the norm under Urban Meyer — are set to wear alternate uniforms from the Harley era during one game this season, the school announced Monday afternoon.

Ohio State did not specify which game the alternates will make their debut.

Last season, the Buckeyes donned all black kits for their 38-10 home victory against Penn State Oct. 17.

Originally reported over the weekend first by Alex Gleitman of 247Sports with an assist from the father of 2017 cornerback commit Shaun Wade, the uniform will commemorate the 100th anniversary of Harley's first All-American campaign. During the 1916 season, Harley led Ohio State to its first conference football championship. You can read more about the program's first undefeated season here.

Concerning the inside tag:
In 1941, James Thurber described Harley's running skills for the New York City newspaper, PM, "If you never saw him run with a football, I can't describe it to you. It wasn't like Red Grange or Tom Harmon or anybody else. It was kind of a cross between music and cannon fire, and it brought your heart up under your ears."[1]
Why it's on a tag and not stitched along the inside collar, I do not know.

Because they'd have to do something called research to find out a) who Chic Harley was b) who James Thurber was c) What the Harley uniform that Thurber saw in action really looked like.

How much trouble would it be to make the pants khaki, the helmet have a "leather helmet look" and the front number much, much smaller in size? The NFL would do it in a heart beat.

They didn't wear white helmets in 1916. In fact of all the colors that have been used as Ohio State helmets - brown, scarlet, gray/silver, black and white; white has had the shortest lifespan - something like 1949 to 1951.

That is correct! They didn't wear silver helmets either.
The white(1950s) would go with the big white numbers. As a look.

I see that Chic Harley lettered in baseball, basketball and track, also!
He undoubtedly was quite fast! And athletic!

Not sure if anyone else has been wanting to order a new, fresh jersey for the upcoming season, and is also having problems with ordering from aliexpress. I just found out that they have now moved. 11w provided some info that www.dhgate.com is now selling the same jerseys that aliexpress had. Just an FYI

I've never ordered from aliexpress, but didn't those jerseys have the nike swoosh on them to make them more authentic replicas?
