Jim Delany (B1G Commissioner)

He needs to seriously consider backtacking on requiring strong out of conference schedules.

Not for us, we aren't going to be scheduling the little sisters anyways, but for the middling teams like Purdue, so their win/loss records look a little more impressive.

What I'd like to see
- 8 conf games; maybe even 7
- No FCS
- Strongly encourage one appropriate P5 opponent ... BTN money to help pay for it (ie enough to pay for one of those G5 layups)
- Penalize teams for losing to G5 opponents and ND.
- Reward teams for beating P5 opponents

Yeah, tOSU's loss to Purdue wouldn't look so bad if the Boilers hadn't scheduled that powerhouse Eastern Michigan squad that beat them in September.

ESPN has been talking about having other conferences use the Big-12 model for a few weeks. This year it worked out for the Big-12, but many times this format will knock out a team from the playoff. Except of course the loser of the SECCG, which would of course still be one of the 'Four best teams' using the eye test.

The problem is the Big 12 model works because they only have 10 teams and everyone plays everyone. How in the meth teeth would that work in a 14 team conference with presumably no divisions, where someone can get OSU, MSU, PSU, and dUMb while someone else is playing Illinois Indiana Rutgers and Maryland?

You’d almost have to have a “pot” system like the UEFA uses, where certain teams are in pot 1, 2, 3, and 4, and everyone gets scheduled with the same number of teams in each pot (presumably 2 each). The problem with that type of more equitable system is a) it kills all the rivalry games, and b) how do you determine who should be in what pot when players stay a max of 4 years?

ESPN advocating it is conclusive evidence that it's stupid, poorly thought out, and intended to hurt everyone except the SEC and Clemson.
Exactly. I think they see the current imbalance between B1G East and West, and would prefer to see the East Champ have to play TTUN or Penn State instead of the West Champ, thinking it would occasionally knock tOSU or whoever the East Champ is out of the playoff.

A replay of The Game one week later would also diminish the importance of The Game. That's another reason to vehemently oppose this current 'top two teams in each league' proposal.
