Conspiracy theorists could have field day with NCAA

Sunday, April 15, 2007 3:38 AM

Norman Mailer once wrote a 1,168-page novel called Harlot's Ghost about the shadowy CIA. It ended with the words: "To be continued." Imagine how many pages Mailer could crank out on the Byzantine world of the NCAA. Ol' Norman could fill 500 in his sleep just on the end of Jim O'Brien's tenure as Ohio State basketball coach.
O.B. keeps popping up in the local news even though he hasn't coached since OSU fired him in June 2004 for what the school said was violations of NCAA rules.

Thanks for the link, but that's about as nonsensical and inconsequential an article as I've read in a long time.

NCAA decision keeps O'Brien waiting

Wednesday, May 9, 2007 4:52 PM
By Rob Oller

COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Jim O'Brien may need to wait longer than he hoped before attempting to return to college coaching after the NCAA amended but did not eliminate its show-cause penalty against the former Ohio State men's basketball coach. The NCAA Committee on Infractions today reduced the penalty from five years to two years, meaning O'Brien could more easily find employment at an NCAA school beginning on May 9, 2009.
The original date was March 10, 2011, but the infractions committee amended the penalty after a decision last month from the NCAA Infractions Appeals Committee that reversed the most serious finding against O'Brien — that he gave $6,000 to the family of Yugoslavian recruit Aleksandar Radojevic in 1998.

I always thought that OB was a tremendous bench coach. But with his percieved lack of ethics and his hatred of recruiting, I don't know who would want him anyway. Ah well that being said, I've been wearing my 1999 Final Four shirt a lot lately. It's kinda neat reminiscing about something that did not happen:biggrin:

OSU, O'Brien present cases in appeals court

Thursday, May 24, 2007

COLUMBUS ? Lawyers representing Ohio State and former men's basketball coach Jim O'Brien appeared before an appeals court on Wednesday to argue over how much more O'Brien is entitled to be paid after he was fired in June 2004.
O'Brien's lawyers said he should receive $1.3 million more than the $2.46 million already awarded to the ex-coach by the Ohio Court of Claims. University attorneys said O'Brien committed a material breach of his contract and shouldn't receive any money.

Re: Ohio State University and O'Brien both had appealed the ruling by the Ohio Court of Claims last year. Judge Joseph T. Clark ruled in August that although O'Brien acted improperly, he was fired without cause in a breach-of-contract lawsuit.

and

The Franklin County Court of Appeals agreed yesterday with that decision. In the majority ruling, Judges Donna Bowman and G. Gary Tyack affirmed a decision by the Ohio Court of Claims. Judge Judith L. French dissented.

I now know what three judges to never vote for. :mad1:

write the check and lets forget this asshole ever existed.

The University has gone this far they probably will appeal the ruling to the Ohio Supreme Court. They just can't seem to drop it and probably should.
At least I know what judges to vote for now and it won't be Tyack or Donna B.
