Anybody listen to the post game?

JT implied that if we had scored on the last possession of the first half and not turned the ball over on the first possession of the second half the outcome might have been different.

He also said he didn't think we were 'dominated' by Iowa.

33-7 with our 7 a gift?
331-150 in total yards?
27 yards on 29 rushes?

Can you spell denial?

He talked about looking at the film and trying to get better. What was missing doesn't show up on the film. Today's Dispatch contained comments from players about lack of intensity, players not caring, and players afraid to make mistakes. That wont show up on the film. This wasn't about the footwork. I am tired of hearing about footwork.

JT is excellent at taking a bunch of mediocre athletes and turning them into a great football team. He needs to do that for the team from Columbus this week.

BTW - if you are looking for a number to focus on try this one. In the last six quarters OSU has a net 24 yards rushing. (I read it in the paper, it has to be true.)

I thought the 3 1/2 hours before the post game interviews were the comedy hour(s)?

For what it is worth, here are the quotes:

"Mental mistakes really killed us," defensive end Simon Fraser said. "We’ve got to get the attitude of this team changed around. We’re all playing real hesitant and scared to make mistakes. We can’t do that."
"I think right now it means more to some guys on our team than it does to other guys. That’s not good enough. We have to find a way to make it mean everything to everybody."

Without naming names, Carpenter said some of his teammates "lacked emotion" on the Kinnick Stadium sideline.

"The effort was there on almost every play," Carpenter said. "But there are a few guys I see who it doesn’t mean enough to, and that’s tough."
Cornerback Dustin Fox said, "Different guys handle adversity in different ways. Right now, I’m as mad and frustrated as anybody. But I’m not going to come in here (postgame interviews) and be Kellen Winslow Jr. (a Browns tight end who played at the University of Miami)."

Actually, I think this quote would have been better (thank you to my favorite soundbyte coach, Jim Mora):

"We couldn't do...didly-POO offensively...We didn't run the ball, we didn't try to run the ball, we couldn't stop the run, we couldn't complete a pass, every time they got the ball in the second half they went down and got points...we got our assess totally kicked, and that sucks."

Tressel has to understand that you can't spin that performance...even if you think you are teflon Jim.

The Senator can spin anything...

unless you've learned to speak "Tressel," like we all have these past few years.

A primer for you non-linguists

"we didn't deserve to win" = we played like shit/got our asses kicked

"we didn't do the things we needed to do" = By the time everyone figured out their assignments, the play was over

"The O-line did not play as well as we'd hoped" = Our OL looked like a picket fence trying to stop a fleet of Mack Trucks.

"(Insert QB Name) needs to play better than (OTHER QB Name) = SOMEBODY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD HIT AN OPEN RECEIVER CONSISTENTLY! I'm benching you both and putting Turano back there. I think he's due.

Oh, and nothing meant by Turano... just grabbed a name at random.

I don't disagree at all that passing accuracy has been a serious problem the last few weeks. However, I also think that part of the problem in that aspect of the game is that receivers are not getting open. It's harder to tell since I'm watching the games on tv, but it does not look to me like there are consistently good options downfield.

Unfortunately, that is part of Tressel's personality-the disengenuousness at press conferences. This is in marked contrast to Jim O'Brien, who was very blunt about his team with the media. It will be interesting to see what Matta's MO w/ the press will be.

He said he wouldn't go so far as to say we were "dominated", but that they "kicked our butts". I would argue that "kicked our butts" is more powerful than "got dominated."

I can't wait to hear the spin he puts on all this at his weekly press conference/luncheon this week.

Someone posted yesterday in the game thread that the team gave up. While I won't say the team as a whole gave up, but it sure seemed some players did and weren't playing hard.

Also, one announcer made a good point yesterday that the team is young and most of them (other than the seniors and 4th year juniors) had been riding high on the past two seasons (25-2, national title, two BCS bowl wins), and now reality is smacking them in the face...this shit is new to them.

I can only buy into the 'this team is new' argument so far. That can explain not being ready for NU and getting beat by a very good Wisky team. It doesn't explain not being able to get fired up after two losses and come out smoking against a mediocre Iowa.

Besides, I thought this was what Tressel was about. Having these values and standards that everybody bought into. John Cooper was the one with the problem of not being able to control his players.

Great point it begins to be tough to say your team is young when you are 1/2 way through your season..
